Description

N. PETERS. FHDTOMTHOGRAPHEH, WASHINGTON. D. C.
' llutrll tude tutti @une WILLIAM A. BoYDEN AND CHARLES J. MANN, oF A-LTooNA, PENNSYL- VANIA. f*
Letters .Patent N 100,007, dated February 22, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT 'IN VEGETABLECUTTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it mag/concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM A. BoYDEN and CHARLES J. MANN, in the city of Altoona, county of ABlair, and State of -Pennsylvania, have invented a new f tion ofour improved cutter;
Figure 2, an end elevation partially in section, and
Figure 3, a plan View.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will now proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
A base-plate of any suitable construction is proyided, which has proper standards for supporting the frame A.
1S represents a slide which is moved on Ways, e, by meansofthe pitman F, wheel G, and crank K.
C represents a double-edged knife, which is securely attached to the. slide Bby means of screws, as shown, it being preferably lol-ated on a line inclined from' the transverse center line inorder that it may have a drawing cut.
D D represent platesof wood, or any proper material, the outer ends of which are attached to the slideB in a proper manner. Their inner end s rest upon the thumb-screws a a', as shown in tig. 1. By means of this construction the platesmay be adjusted so as to permit the knife to out line or coarse as may be desired.
E represent-s a box or hopper located over the slide B, as shown, which is secured tothe frame A by means ofthumb-screws b. By means of this construction it may be readily removed when desired.
H represents a follower provided with a handle in the usual manner.
The operation is as follows:
The vegetable or other substance to be cutis placed in the box E, and pressed down upon the plates D by means ofthe follower. Motion is now given the slide by means of the crank, and the knife at each movement cuts a slice from the vegetable. By adjusting the plate D it may be made to cnt lille or coarse.
When the operation is completed the box l) may be removed by unscrewing the screws b. All the parts are thus easily reached for the purpose of cleaning them.
Having thus'i'ully described our invention,
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The cutter described, consisting of the base-plate, standards, frame A, slide l5, knife C, plates D, with set-screws a', removable box E, with thumb-screws b', pitman F, wheel G, and crank K, when combined as described for the purpose set forth.
