UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ROUSSEAU, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGN OR OF ONE-HALF TO PETER MARTIN, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINATION OIL-CAN AND OlLSTONE-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 618,483, dated January 31 1899.
Application filed October 9 1 8 9 7.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN ROUSSEAU, a citizen of Canada, residing at Detroit, in the county of WVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Oil-Gan and Oilstone: Cover, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to devise an oil-containing cover for an oilstone that will feed the oil down onto the stone by simply pressing a button or similar device and which will be extremely simple in operation and of economical construction.
To these ends my invention consists inthe device constructed and arranged substantially as set forth hereinafter.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the cover. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cover taken from the bottom. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the can.
The cover or lid is formed of a box A of rectangular shape. 0 is a sheet-metalbox of the width of the interior of the box A, but of less length and depth than its interior. This box 0 has extensions 0 and e on opposite ends. The projection c enters a notch oin the cover A, and the projection e is engaged by the spring d, by which means the oil-box is securely held in the cover. The bottom of the box has an opening 6, that has a cork valves attached to the end of the lever 19. This Isver 19 is mounted upon a suitable support q, secured to the bottom of the box B. A spring it passes around the pivot r of the lever 19 and over the valve 8, holding it tightly closed. To the other end of the lever 9 is secured a rod 42, projecting through an opening in the top of the box. Said opening has a tube h soldered thereto extending into the box A cap closes the bottom around the rod n.
Serial No. 654,708 (No model.)
of the tube, having a hole therein for the rod n to work in. A spiral spring t' surrounds '7the rod n and rests on the bottom of the tube 1.. and sliding in said tube is a cork valve is. Over this another washer l. A button or head a is secured to the extremity of rod n, and between this button and washer Z is a tube m. The tube It has a small opening 0 in it near to its attachment to the can. This hole will be normally closed by the cork valve is; but when the button a is depressed the rod n depresses the valve 70, so that the hole 0 is left exposed and the air is free to enter the box 0 at the same time that the outer end of the le- Ver p is raised, carrying the valve 8 with it, and thus leaving the oil free to run out through the opening b.
For filling the can a threaded cylinder is secured to one end of the can and has a screwcap f fitting therein, with a leather washer g to keep it tight.
What I claim is- In an oil-containing cover for an oilstone, the combination of the trunnions q, the lever 19, mounted therein, the valve 8 secured to one end of lever 19 for closing the hole b, the spring u for holding the valve 8 closed, the rod n, mounted on the end of lever 19, the cylinder h secured to the can havinghole in bottom through which the rod 1?. passes; the spring '5 on rod a, resting on bottom of cylinder h, the cork valve 70 on'rod n, the washer Z between spring iand cork valve 70, the head a on rod 7%, the tube m on rod n, the washer Z, between the tube m and cork valve is; the tube it having a hole 0 near the cover normally closed by corkvalve is, substantially as set JOHN ROUSSEAU.
' forth.
