Description
Patented'Dac. 6, I898.
H. H. BRIGGS. SHOE CASE catmn filed mi. 22, 1898) UNITED STATES PATENT. .OFFICE.
HUGH H. DRIGGS, OF PALMYRA, MICHIGAN.
SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,438, dated December 6, 1898. Application filed January 22, 1898. Serial No. 667,524. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH H. DRIGGS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Palmyra, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Case's, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of this invention are to provide a showcase designed to display goods of all kinds, and more particularly for exhibiting cigars or like articles and affording means whereby the articles placed therein can be easily reached. For the attainment of these objects and for other purposes hereinafter enumerated iu brief, certain details of construction, arrangement of and combination of parts, all of which will be more fully described hereinafter.
The novel features of the invention are embraced in the appended claim, which is intended to accord in its terms, spirit, and meaning with the prior state of the art and the existing law.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device. Fig. 2 is a detail View showing the construction of the shelves.
Referring by letters to the drawings, A represents a casing having an open back B and an inclined front G, provided with a glass D, beneath which the goods are displayed upon a series of shelves E, arranged in step form within the casing, as plainly shown in Fig. 1
of the drawings.
The shelves, which are arranged substantially in step form, are provided with fiat metal strips F, adapted to secure the same rigidly together, with the exception f the last or bottom shelf, which is securely fastened to the bottom of the casing and pro vided with hinges G, to which the connected shelves are secured and adapted toswiug freely within the case.
Secured in the bottom of the casing is a spring H, adapted to engage the connected shelves and to hold the same in the raised or closed position. g
It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap and simple show-case, one in which the goods to be displayed may be placed upon the shelf and the lid of the box containing the said goods to rest upon the back of the shelf, thus showing plainly the name and character of the goods displayed.
I deem the foregoing explanation sufficiently plain, and that the improvements will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters, the extreme simplicity renders ing an elaborate description unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a show-case the combination of a casing, having an inclined front, a glass cover over the said front, a series of shelves, arranged in step form and braces for securing the same together, the said shelves pivotally connected to the bottom of the casing, and a spring adapted to hold the shelves in a raised or closed position, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
7 HUGH H. DRIGGS.
