TO ALL WHOM. IT MAY CONCERN:v
Be it known that I, EMILE LOISEAU, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Hoop-Skirts Holder; and I do hereby declare the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art' to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specifieation. l e
The .object of this invention is to providela remedy against the inconvenience whichv so often is occasioned to ladies, when, either through accident or in a crowd, the skirt and petticoat are raised, whereby the lower-hoops of the skirts are exposed.V Itgis in that case very annoying and troublesome to readjust the dress, which can only be done by shaking the same. Also, when a lady is seated'it' will often happenvthat the hoops become so entangled that it will be almostimpossible to bring them into the right shape aga-in. When descendin'g staircases, or leaving cars or other Vehicles, the ladies generally raise their dresses a little; but the hoop is very often not raised, and hangs down, so that t heladies' feet can be easily xentangled in the same, whereby serious accidents are frequently occasioned. By my iuvention all the above annoyances are completely overcome, and it is made impossible for the hoop-Skirts to separate from the balmoralyor pet'ticoat.
My invention' consists in arranging a device wherebythc lower or any one hoop o'f the skirt is secured to the petticoat, thereby making actually one garment out of Athe two. The connection can be made by any suitable .devicehthe most simple form being shownpin the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of the skirt-holder; and
Figure 2, au edge view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicatc like parts.
A rectangular frame, a, with rounded corners, made of metal wire, and one long side of which may be provided with a roller, b, isfsecured to a strap, A, of leather, cloth, or any other suitable material. The opposite end of this strap is provided with abuttou-hole, c'. The strap is wound around a hoop of theiskirt, and its end passed between the hoop and the roller b, thus forming a loop and Securing the strap'well to the hoop. The
upper end of the strap is then secured to a button on the petticoat. Any number of such or similar straps may bc employed, so as to secure the petticoat well to the hoop-skirt.
The-same object will be attained'by using other devices, such as cl'asps, hooks, Stc. The straps may also be secured firmly to the petticoat, instead of the' hoop-skirt. V
All these details are immaterial, as the essential idea consists in uniting the two garments so that they form but one; whereby all the aforesaid anuoyances are overcome. I I
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is-- .A strap, A, whereby a ladyis hoop-skirt is attached to a petticoat; said strap being made substantially as herein shown and described. EMILE LOISEAU,
