Description
@uiten tats @strat @Hite T. J. MARINUS, 4 0F INDEPENUENCE, IOVA.
Letters Patent No. 61,346, dated Jmaum'y 2.2, 1867.
IMPROVED WINDOW-SHADE SUPPGBTEE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, T. J. MARINUS, ofthe city of Independence, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Supporters; and I declare the following to be a full, true, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of these specications, and the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 represents a Window shade with the supporter attached.
Figure 2 represents an enlarged front view of my supporter.
Figure 3 represents a section View of the same.
Letter A, iig. 1, represents the frame of the shade, to which are attached the slats B B B B, by the cords C C C C C C, the said cords intertwining among the slats so as to hold them firmly and securely in their places. To the frame A are attached two rings, E E, by which the shade is hung to the window frame, upon hooks or nails driven into the frame for that purpose. The letter D, represents the tape or oord by which the shade is lowered or raised. The said tape or cord is attached to the frame A, upon the opposite side of the shade, passes down its entire length, and up to the top on the front side, through the hollow box or frame F, (as shown in tig. 3,) and through the ring G, again passes through the supporter, leaving sulcient length for a person to catch hold of it. Letter H, g. 2, represents the tongue or lever of thesupporter, which prevents the tape or cord from slipping up or down, and holds it in itsk place. Against the tongue or lever H is placed the spring I, (as.
lshown in tig. 3,) which presses against the upper part of the tongue or lever H, thus forcing the lower part to press against the lower part of the frame, at which point the tape enters and passes out, It' you desire to raise the shade, catch the tape by the end, press upon the loyer H, and then pull upon the tape, until the shade is raised to the required height; remove the pressure from the lever and the shade remains in the required position. To lower the shade, press the lever, and the shade descends by its own Weight. I claim its use on cottage Window shades principally. The advantages of my supporter are numerous and manifest. It is simple in its Construction; easily managed; does not get out of order; can be made of almost any material; can be'manufao-` tured for less than any other supporter now in use. A
Having thus described my supporter, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I claim in a Window shade the combination of the clamps composed of the lever H, the hollow frame F, and
spring I, with the cord for raising theshade, all constructed in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth. V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I hereby aiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
T. J. MARINUS.
