Description

aith tetes @etentffies;
CHARLES -G.YMATGVHET T, OF GREENVILLE, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 75,037, elated March 3, 1868.
IMPROVED WINDOW-SHADE.
ATo WHoM IT MAY coNoERN;
Be it known that I, CHARLES G.AIXIATC`HETT, of Greenville, Darke' county, and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Window-Blind; and do hereby declare theA following to be a full, clear, aud exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification.
My invention relates to a device for enabling either the top or'bottom of a blind to b e folded up or down, and retained at any desired position at will.
Figure 1 is a. perspective view of a window provided with my improvement.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical section of the gravitating catch.
Figure 3 represents a modification of thevsaid catch.
A represents the -frame of a window. B 'is a roller, around which are Wound'bands, C Cl, whoso upper ends are fastened to the upper part of the'w'indow-frame To the roller B isattached the top. edge of the blind, I). The bottom odge of the blind is attached to a roller, E. A ribund, It, attached to the upper roller B, is carried over a rounded tongue or bolt, Gr, axed 'to the top ofthe frame. VIn order to hold the riband automaticaliy to any adjustment, I hinge to the top of the frame a gravitatingicatch, II, 1whose projection, 7;, falling upon the riband, acts to nip the same firmly upon the tongue Gf The elevation and depression of the lower rollers arcpefected by means of a cord, I, which, being bent in the middle, enters a slidingr and weighted tassel, J,whence its twocnds are rove respectively through eyes, K Ii', on the frame-top, and descendingin front ofthe blind, pass underneath the lower roller, whence theyvextend upward, and are made fast -to the under side of the frame-top. i
Ifit be desired to elevate both rollers simultaneously, the operator grasps both thc cord and riband, and draws bothdoxv'n.v The gravitating catch then secures the ribaud, and the cord is sccuredto the adjustment by slipping up of the tassel .with the other hand. It, on the other hand, it be desired to depress the blind bodily,
lthe gravitating catch is lifted and the tassel slid dQfvm-and both cord and riband are permitted to descend.
Should it be desired to increase or diminish the effective area of the blind, tho same may be effected by a separate elevation or depression of the rollers. The bolt G may be furnished with a roller, g.
I claim herein as new, vand of my inventionl 1. The-arrangement of gravitating catch I-I with the riband F, upper `roller B, and ban'ds C C', for the purpose set forth. v i
2.' The arrangement ot'ucord I, tassel J, and lower roller E, for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of the two rollers B E, bands C CIi, catch II, and cord I, substantially as Aand for the purposes set forth.
In testimony oi' which invention, I hereunto se't my hand.
OHAS. G. MATOI-IE'IT.
