JAMES ANDRE MCCUTCHEN, OF PINE GROVE,ASSIGNOR OE ONE-THIRD TO WVM. M. DIGHT, -OF MERCER, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,826, dated May 9, 1882.
- Application mea Maren o, leen. (No mout-1.)
To all whom it may concern Y Be it known that I, JAMES ANDREW Mc- CUTCHEN, of Pine Grove,in the county of Mercer and ,State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Blind- Adjusters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference `1o marked thereon, which form part of this speciication, in which the invention is illustrated applied to a window frame and blind, showing the latter partly rolled up from the bottom.
This invention relates to novel means for rolling up and unrollingwindow-blinds, and,
when desired, adjusting the blind at the top to any desired height; and the-nature of my inventionconsists in a novel system or arrange-l ment of cords and pulleys in combination with zo a suspended window -blind having a roller at its lower end, as will be hereinafter explained.
The following description of my invention,
i when taken in connection with the annexed drawing, will enable others skilled in the art 2 5 to fully understand it.
A designates thewindow-frame; B,a windowblind made of any suitable exible 1naterial,and provided with a rigid strip, C, at the top, and a roller, C', at the bottom. To the lintel of 3o the frame I apply four grooved pulleys, D D D' D', which may be made ornamental. These pulleys may be the ordinary vitreous knobs attached to the lintel by means ot' screws around which they are free to turn.
E designates a cord, the ends of which are secured at a a to the lintel near the two pulleys D D. The cord E is passed through eyes b b, fixed to the top edge of the shade-strip C,
y blind down bodily.
thence over the pulleys D D, thence down and around the roller C', thence up and over the two pulleys D' D', thence down again in the center of the shade, through an eye,c,` fixed v to the head ot the tassel G, where the two portions ofthe cord come together, and are passed freely th rough a guide-eye, d, fixed to the strip C at the middle ot'thelength thereof. The cord is .then passed through an eye, g, fixed to the lintel centrally between the two knobs or pulleys D' D. n
It will be seen that by manipulating the tassel--that is, by pulling it down or releasing it--the shade can be rolled up or Enrolled.` lhe weight of the roller and the counterbalancing-weight ot' the tassel G will arrest the blind at any desired point of adjustment. By sim- 55 ply raising the tassel the roller will unroll by its own gravity.
It it isdesired to admit lightfrom above the blind, this can be done by simply 'pulling the Having described my invention, I claim- The combination, with the window -blind provided with a roller and a top strip, of the pulleys D D D' D', the cord E, Xed at a a to thelintel, passed over theouterpnlleys, around 6 5 the curtain-roller, over pulleysD' D', through an eye or ring attached to the tassel, through the eye d and the eye g, all substantiallyin the manner and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as V7o my own I atlix, my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES ANDREW MCCUTCHEN. Witnesses:
WILLIAM KILE, Jas. MURPHY.
