CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS. v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,523, dated August 2, 1898. Application filed October 27, 1897. Serial No. 656,528. (No model.)
This invention relates to improvements inA bedsteads, and has Ymore particular relation to bedstea'd attachments.
The invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which Will be hereinafter mor particularly set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents Y a perspective view of a portion of afbedstead With my invention attached thereto, and Fig. 2 represents acentral vertical section through my said improvement When in its doubled position.
1 in the drawings represents the bedstead, This latter comprises a frame portion 3, a springmattress 4, supporting-brackets 5' 5, and side and endguards 6 and 7, respectively. Said frame 3 maybe of any desired construction and material, but is preferably given the rectangular form shown in the drawings. This frame is adapted to be' supported in position by the brackets 5, upon Which it rests. Each of said brackets comprises a horizontal baser portion 8, a hooked portion 9, and a bracing portion l0. Each of said horizontal portions Sis provided at its outer end With an upwardly-projecting arm 11, provided near its upper end With a journal-aperture 12, through Which passes the lower bar of the guard 6, whereby the latter is secured movably in position. Said arms 1l 1l also act as restrain-ing means for the frame 3 and prevent the same from sliding outward over the respective brackets. The hooks 9 9, which are formed upon the inner ends of the horizontal portions S, also form restraining means for preventing the Each of said hooks 9 is provided With an internal antifriction-roller 13, which is preferably covered with rubber and is adapted to rest upon the top ,of the bedstead-rail when the hooks 9 are applied in position over said rail. Each of the bracing portions 10 is provided on its loWer side with an adjustable slide 14, secured in position by a bolt 15, which passes throughan elongated slot 16, formed in said slide and engaging said bracing portions. A pendent stud 17 is mounted on the inner end of said slide and carriesa rubber-bound roller 18; which latter is adapted to bear against the side of the bedstead-rail when my improved attachment is applied in position. The end guards 7 7 are hinged at their-respective outer ends to the guards 6, so that they may be doubled ilat against the same when so desired to permit all of said guards being doubled down iiat upon the spring-mattress 4., Which connects the respective side and end portions of the frame 3.
It will be observed from the foregoing description that my improved attachment may be instantly applied to a bedstead or detached therefrom and securely held in position when applied thereto Without any positive connection to the bedstead, such as Would mar the finish of the side rails of the same. The engagement of the rubber-bound rollers With the respective portions of the side rail effectually prevents any scratchin g or other injury to said rail and at the same time permits of the attachment being moved along the side rail withA a minimum amount of friction. When so desired, the respective guards 6 and 7 may be doubled fiat upon the spring-mattress and the Whole device disconnected from the bedstead by simply lifting the brackets, so that the hooks 9 disengage from the upper portion of the side rail. The said guards 6 and 7 preferably comprise metallic frames covered by a suitable reticulated material; but I do not care to limit myself on this point, as any suitable construction of guard may be employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l In a bedstead attachment, the combination IOO In testimony whereof I affix my signature with a plurality of supportingbraekets each in presence of two witnesses.
