PAUL SOHOEN, OF GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF Tl/VO-THIRDS TO ANNA SCIIOEN AND ALBERT H. SILVERMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,898, dated July 5, 1898.
Application filed October 6, 1397.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL SOHOEN, of Glens Falls, in the county of WVarren and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide certain new and useful improvement in garments-such as shirts, waists, &c.whereby heat emanating from the body of the wearer finds a ready outlet through the bosom of the garment and fresh air is free to pass through said bosom from the outside to ventilate the Wearers body without, however, producing any draft.
The invention consists in the particular construction and arrangement of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as applied to a shirt. Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation of the improvement with some of the plaits open, and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same.
The garment is provided with a bosom A, formed principally of perforated fabric B- such as gauze, netting &c.,and on the front of the said fabric B are secured plaits O, sewed along one longitudinal edge to the said fabric, with the free end of one plait overlapping the attached end of the adjacent plait. The fabric 13 and the plaits O are attached at Serial No. 654,257. (No model.)
their lower ends to the usual binding-band D, and the said plaits are secured at their upper ends to the neckband E of the shirt, as is plainly indicated in Fig. 1.
In case the bosom A is made to open in front then the overlapping plaits O O are secured at their inner edges to the ends of the fabric B, as is plainly indicated in the drawings, the overlapping plaits having suitable buttons and buttonholes for connecting the parts with each other for closing the garment.
Now it will be seen that by the arrangement described the plaits O are free to open outwardly to allow a proper circulation of air through the perforated fabric to and from the body of the wearer to properly ventilate the body and relieve the same of excessive heat emanating from the body, especially in summer time.
In case a strong wind strikes the bosom then the plaits O readily close the same as valves to prevent the wind or air from passing to the body of the wearer.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shirt or the like having its bosom formed of a backing of open-mesh fabric, and a series of independent plaits each secured along one longitudinal edge to the outer surface of the backing and overlapping one another, substantially as described.
PAUL SCHOEN.
