TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JOHN RICHARD S, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented new and useful improvements in Fire Tongs; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and t0 the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the shape and construction of the tongs, with a wrench poker, hook for lifting of? the plates or kettles on stoves, and a regulating screw combined. A represents the one leg of the tongs, with a forked hinge, B, at one end, and a square aperture, 0, in the foot D, for unscrewing nuts of screws on a cook-stove. E is the opposite leg, with a poker, G, at the foot D, for the purpose of stirring or raking the fire. This leg extends up beyond the hinge B, and has a lifting hook, H, on its upper end,,for the purpose of removing the lids or plates of cook-stoves, or lifting of kettles, &0. There is also another wrench, J, near the hook H, for taking off smaller nuts, or tightening them, on 'stoves,-&c. Artightening screw, K, passes through both 1egs A and E, operated by a crank, L, for the purpose of regulating the width of the tongs and tightening the feet, so as to hold firmly to any article to be carried, or for a blacksmith for heating and removing his work from the fire;

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The construction of the fire tongs, when arranged and combined with wrenches C and J, hook H, poker G, and regulating screw K, as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
