UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
FOLSOM DORSETT, SR., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES PARKER, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,408, dated October 7, 1873; application filed April 1'2, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FOLSOM DORSETT, Sr., of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Boot-Jack; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in whichv Figure 1 is an edge or side view of the jack. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a bottom view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several iigures.
The object of my invention is to improve boot-jacks, so that their holding jaws or horns are adjustable'fheels of diierent sizes, as will be hereitttdescribed.
The following description of my invention will enable others skilled in the art to linderstand it:
In the accompanying drawings, A A represent the two longitudinal parts of the jack, which are halved together at b, and connected by a pivot, a. These two parts constitute the foot-stand, on which one foot is placed to hold the jack down while the boot is being drawn off the other foot. They also constitute the legs a bolt, e, is passed transversely, on thev threaded end of which a nut or a thumb-screw, f, is applied. The parts which form the footstand are open and light, and the horns or jaws are curved so as to conform as near as .practicable to the shape of boot-heels.
It will be seen from the above description that I have a light, compact, and portable bootjack, the jaws or horns of which can be adjusted and set at different distances apart, as may be desired, by turning the nut j'.
I do not claim, broadly, a boot-jack havin expansible jaws or horns, as this is not new.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described bootjack, consisting of two parts, A A, forming the footstandard jaws and legs, united by a joint, a, a bolt, e, .and an adjusting-nut, f, as set forth.
