- ROB ROYPARRISH, OF INDEPENDENCE, OREGON.
NUT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 605,450, dated June 7, 1898.
Application filed July 21, 1897. Serial No. 645,365. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, ROB ROY PARRISH, of Independence, in the county of Polk and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Nut, of which the following is a sufficiently full and clear description as will enable others who are skilled in the art of making nuts to make and use the same.
My invention relates to nuts that are screwed to and from their place of use by wrenches.
The object of'my invention is to prevent the nut from falling out of the wrench.
My invention consists of a small knob formed on the nut; and in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference in dicate corresponding parts, I have illustrated my invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a nut having a knob. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same; Fig. 3, a partly-sectional View of a vehicle nut and wrench.
The nut a, Fig. 1, is made with corners b, b, b, and b, and front and rear edges 0 and d, Fig. 2. About midway between the upper corners Z) and b is placed the knob 6, Figs. 1, 2', and 3. The knob may be of any desirable size and shape and is designed to fit into a knob-hole made in the wrench used for adjusting the nut. The .nut may be provided with more than one knob, as indicated by the dotted line f. If the knob e is placed at or near the front edge 0, it will leave a wrench-space 9 between the knob e and rear edge (1, upon which the front part h of the wrench-jaw i may press, Fig. 3. p
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V 1. As a new article of manufacture, a nut,
said nut having two or more contiguous front corners, front and rear edges, a wrench-knob located between two contiguous corners, not extending to either of said corners, wrenchspace between said knob and said rear edge, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination in a nut having a circular rear edge, a front edge provided with two or more contiguous front corners, of a wrench-knob located adjacent to two contiguous front corners, not extending to either of said corners, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination in a nut having an enlarged rear edge, a front edge provided with two or more contiguous front corners, of a Wrench-knob located adjacent to two contiguous front corners, not extending to either of said corners, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
