Patented May 24, 18 98.

CHARLESO. HOOKER, OF RICHMOND, KENTUCKY.
DEVICE FOR ADMlNlSTERlNG MEDICINES.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 604,393, dated May 24, 1898.
Application filed April 30, 1897- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. HOOKER, of Richmond, in the county of Madison and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Administering Medicines to Animals, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to devices for administering medicine in the form of powder to animals; and its object is to provide an improved construction of the same which shall prevent spilling of the medicine and also enable it to be administered in a more efficient manner and without liability of the hands of the operator beinginj ured by vicious animals.
My invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device complete. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the cup or receptacle which contains the medicine pushed out as when in use, and Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the cup and its handle removed.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates a rectangular box the lower end of which is open and provided with a hinged bottom 2. To the upper end of this boxis secured a hollow handle 3, having a circular Serial No. 634,659. (No model.)
flange 4 at the upper end. Fitting in the hollow handle is a plunger 5, having a ring 6 at the upper end. To the other end of said plunger is secured a cup 7, open at the outer end and at one side.
In practice the cup containing the medicine is drawn within the box and the hinged bottom turned up, as seen in Fig. 1. To administer the medicine, the box is inserted in the animals mouth and the plunger forced inward, causing the cup to be forced out of the box, the hinged bottom opening, when by a slight manipulation the medicine will be emptied and deposited in the mouth. By this means medicine can be safely and efficiently administered without unnecessary pain to the animal. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1 The combination with the open-ended box, the hinged bottom, and the hollow handle, having a circular flange at the upper end, of the cup open at the lower end and top, the plunger secured thereto and formed with a ring at the upper end, substantially as described.
CHAS. c. HOOKER.
