MEDICINE-DISPENSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 23, 1919.
Application filed July 15, 1919. Serial No. 310,889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PRISCILLA SnLLERs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved medicine dispensing device.
The improvement is in the nature of a medicine spoon and is primarily devised for administering a medicament to an infant or child in determined quantities, the same constituting a spoon proper provided with a handle and a medicament holder detachably connected to and communicating with the bowl of the spoon.
An object of the invention is to produce a medicine dispensing device of this character which shall be of an extremely simple construction, cheap to manufacture, readily cleaned, and one wherein the medicament may be administered in an easy and expeditious manner without danger of spilling or wasting portions thereof.
The foregoing objects, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood may be accomplished 'by a simple construction, combination and arrangement of parts such as is illustrated by the drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal sectional view through the same.
My improvement is broadly indicated by the numeral 3 and includes a spoon bowl 4: having a depending reduced neck 5 which has its outer end gradually widened to provide a portion which is round in cross sec tion and which has interior threads 6. Connecting the bowl 4: with the outer end of the enlarged portion of the neck is a rounded handle member 7.
The medicament container is indicated by the numeral 8 and may be constructed of any desired material, glass preferred. This container is round in cross section and has its open end provided with exterior threads that are designed to coengage with the interior threads 6 in the windened or enlarged end of the neck 5.
A determined quantity of a medicament is placed in the container 8. The container is then screwed on the neck of the spoon. The angular arrangement of the neck and the container with respect to the bowl 4 permits of the said bowl being inserted in the mouth of a child or infant without danger of the tongue of the latter being, contacted by the medicament. The device is then canted or tilted upwardly so that all of the medicament from the container 8 will 'fiow through the neck 5 and bowl 4 into the mouth of the patient. The spoon proper and the container being separable elements permit of the easy cleaning of the two parts that constitute the improvement. The con tainer is of a size whereby various doses of' administered in their full doses without danger of the patient spilling the same.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a device for the purpose set forth, a spoon including a bowl having an angular neck connected thereto and communicating therewith and which is widened at its outer end and provided with internal threads, an integral handle connecting the bowl and neck, and said neck designed to threadedly engage with a medicament holder.
2. In a device for the purpose set forth, a spoon having its bowl at the rear and deepest portion thereof provided with a reduced angularly disposed neck which is gradually widened to the outer end thereof and the said outer end being round and threaded, an integral rounded handle connected at the rear of the bowl and widened outer end of the neck, and a medicament holder having a threaded open end engaging with the threads on the neck.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
