I. R. DEVENDORP 8v G. L. EARL, Jr.
' HOSE RACK.
N0. 604,231. Patented May 17,1898.
NITED STATES FFICE@ PATENT IRVING R. DEVENDORE AND CHARLES L. EARL, JR., OF HERKIMER,
NEW YORK.
HOSE-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 604,231, dated May 17, 1898.
Application filed January 8, 1898. Serial No. 666, 006. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that we, IRVING R. DEvEN- DORE and CHARLES L. EARL, J r., of Herkimer, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Racks; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andeXact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a side elevation of our improved hose-rack. Fig. 2 shows an end View of the same. Fig. 3 shows a top or plan view of the device. Fig. 4 shows a cross-section of the inclined hose-supporting shelves.
Referring to the reference letters and figures in a more particular description of the device, 1 1 indicate a pair of uprights connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar 2 and provided at their lower ends with laterally-extended pieces 3 3, all constituting the frame of the device. On opposite sides of the uprights 1 1 are arranged the incline shelves 3 4 5, duc. These shelves are in pairs on opposite sides of the uprights 1, as shown, and the shelf 3 inclines in an opposite direction to the shelf et, so that the ends come close together, as shown, while the opposite ends are considerably removed also, as shown. The upper ends of the upper shelf 3 are connected by a short cross-shelf 6. The shelves 3 4, ne., are provided with a grooved upper surface a, as shown.
The object of the device of course will be understood to drain hose, and to this end the hose is applied substantially as follows: The middle portion of the hose is placed on the shelf 6, when the hose is passed along the shelves 3 from the middle around to the end of the shelf and onto the top of the next shelf 4, and thence along that shelf to the opposite end and around the end and on top of the neXt shelf, as shown, until the ends are reached, which may be on the lowest shelf or some distance above it, depending on the length of the hose and the number of shelves in the rack.
vals with perforations to allow the escape of Water or foreign substances which might get on top of the shelves.
What We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a hose-rack the combination of the frame and a series of incline shelves converging and diverging as shown, whereby a constant inclination is given to the hose placed thereon.
2. The combination in a hose -rack of a frame and a series of incline shelves in pairs on opposite sides of the frame converging and diverging as shown, whereby a constant inclination is given to the hose placed thereon, substantially as -set forth.
3. The combination in a hose-rack of the frame and aset of incline grooved shelves converging and diverging whereby a constant inclination is given to a hose placed thereon, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof we have affixed our signatures, in presence of two witnesses, this 30th day of December, 1897.
IRVING R. DEVENDORF. CHARLES L. EARL, JR.
Witnesses:
