PATENT JAMES W. BUSH, OF SCIOTOVILLE, OHIO.
PAPER-HOLDING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,316, dated May 3, 1898.
' Application'iled October 21., 1897. Serial No. 655,937. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. BUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sciotoville, in the county of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Tissue- Paper and Alcohol, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exac't description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention contemplates the provision of a simple and compact device for holding and permitting of the lconvenient use of alcohol and tissue-paper in cleaning and polishing the lenses of eyeglasses.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of one embodiment of my invention, which is designed for use in the home or office. Fig. 2 is an enlarged diametrical section of the same. Fig.
3 is a detail section taken in the plane indicated by the line a: a: of Fig. l.
Referring by letter to said drawings, A des-` ignates the casing of my improved device, which is circular in form and is preferably made of wood, although other material may be employed when desired. This casing (see Fig. 2) comprises an annular vertical wall a, a bottom Wall h, and a top wall c, the latter being iXedly connected to the upper edge of the wall a and being provided with a central aperture d for a purpose presently described. The annular vertical Wall a is rabbeted at its lower edge, as indicated by e, and in this rabbet the bottom wall b is arranged and removably secured by the pin f, which is Xed to the bottom .Wall and is designed to take into a socket g in the vertical wall, and the springpressed bolt b, which is arranged at an opposite point with respect to pin fand is designed to take into a socket vl in the vertical wall.V
By moving the bolt ah inwardly toward the center of the case one side of the bottom Z) is disconnected fromv thewall a, after which the other side of said bottom may be readily disconnected by withdrawing the pin f from socket g, and the bottom may then be removed for a purpose presently described.
From this the manner of replacing and securing the bottom in the wall t is obvious and need not be described.
The bottom wall h is provided on its upper side with two or more antifriQtion-rollers j, and it is also provided with a central pivotpin 7e, as shown. Mounted and designed to turn on said pin 7c and bear on the rollers is a disk B, which has for its purpose to support and permit of free rotation of an annular spool C. The said spool C is preferably of pasteboard of the form shown, and it is designed to receive the tissue-paper (indicated by l) and has a large central opening m, as shown. In this opening 'm of the spool is arranged a frame n, which has a iiange p, resting in a rabbet q of the top wall c, and also has a ange r at its lower end. Resting on this latter iiange fr and within the frame n is a bottle D, which is designed to contain alcohol. This bottle D is retained in position by a cap-plate s, which is flanged, as indicated by t, to engage the inner side of the frame n, and said bottle is closed by a stopper E, to which a piece of wire F is connected, the latter being designed to carry a bunch.
of fibrous material G, as shown.
' In order to permit of ready removal of the tissue-paper from the easing A, said casing is provided with a slot u, (see Fig; 3,) which has a rounded lip o at one side and a pivoted spring-pressed clamp w at the opposite side,
as shown. The tissue-paper is carried from the spool C, through the slot u, between the lip o and the clamp fw, as shown in Fig. l. When a piece of paper is desired for the purpose of cleaninga pair of glasses, the extended end of the paper is grasped and the quantity desiredis drawn from the spool and casing,
.after which it is cut, the outer edge of the IOO In using my improved device the alcohol or other suitable cleaning agent in the receptacle D is applied to the lenses of the glasses by the soft brush G, and a piece of tissuepaper is then drawn from the casin g and cut and is employed to polish the lenses.
My improved device, as will be readily 0bserved, holds the paper and alcohol in such a manner that they may be very conveniently used for the purpose stated. It also serves to effectually exclude dust and grit from both the alcohol and paper, which is absolutely necessary when such materials are to be used for cleaning and polishingr the lenses of glasses.
Having described my invention, what I claim is l. The herein-described device for holding and permitting of the convenient use of alcohol and tissue-paper comprisin g a casing having a slot in its side Wall, a lip at one side of said slot having its free edge sharpened, and a spring-pressed clamp at the opposite side of the slot impinging against the lip and serving to close the slot, a rotary spool arranged in the casing and having a central opening, and a suitably-supported receptacle for alcohol arranged in the central opening of the spool, substantially as speciiied.
2. In a device for the purpose described, the combination of the casing comprising the annular vertical wall having a slot and also having a lip at one side of the slot and a springpressed clamp at the opposite side adapted to impinge against the lip and close the slot, the bottom Wall detachably connected to the annular Wall and having antifriction-rollers on its upper side and also having a central pivot-post, and a top Wall connected to the upper edge of the annular Wall and having a central opening, a disk mounted on the pivot-post of the bottom wall, a spool supported by said disk and having a central opening, a frame resting in lthe opening of the spool and having a flange at its upper end bearing on the top Wall of the casingr and also having an inwardly-directed flange at its lower end, a receptacle for alcohol arranged in the frame and resting on the lower flange thereof and having a stopper provided with a brush of fibrous material, and a cap-plate bearing on the top wall of the case and the upper end of the receptacle and having a central opening for the passage of the receptacle-stopper, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I a'flix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JAMES lV. BUSH.
