1 Claim. (Cl. 242-654) body of the reel or roll, so that delay and without obtain a piece of tape without using special tools.
Another object of the invention is to provide a, tape roll holder, in which more than one roll of tape may be supported, so that the workman may have available adhesive friction tape and rubber tape.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a tape holder with a cut off knife which may be adjusted to cutting position, or clamped in non-cutting position, and to provide a spring yielding guard for this cutting knife, which will yield when a tape to be out is pressed against the guard.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specifications and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a side view, showing the knife guard in raised position.
Fig. 2' is a similar view, showing the knife guard in lowered position, so that tape may be severed.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view, provided with four parallel tape Fig. 4 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 5 is a detail bottom plan view of the base plate which supports the adjustable cutting knife carrier.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a main frame plate, which is formed with rearwardly disposed flanges 6 the plate. Each flange is t B, through which the body or garment belt 9 is extended, so that the plate may be strapped to the body of the workman.
A wooden shaft It is secured to one side of the plate 5 by means of the screw or connector H, and on this shaft a plurality of tape rolls l2, i3, i4 and I!) may be mounted, disc washers It being arranged between the adjacent sides of these rolls, A washer d c 11 is arranged adjacent the outermost roll and a cotter pin I8 is extended through the rounded outer end portion of the of the rolls on the shaft.
To one side of shaft H! a plate showing a holder rolls.
H! is attached to the frame plate 5, by welding or otherwise. This plate is formed with a slot 190, through which screw 20 extends. The head of this screw is attached to the blade carrier plate 2!, on which the razor or cutting blade 22 is secured, as by means of the screws 23 and 2d The cutting blade and its plate carrier 2| are adjusted by means of the screw it, and the nut 25, so that the cutting edge of the blade 22 may be clamped forwardly of the base or holding plate 19, or rearwardly thereof.
Above the cutting knife a U -shaped metal guard 26 is pivoted upon the stud shaft 21, and is normally held in an upper position by means of the spring arm 28, which extends from the spring coil 28a, secured on the post or screw 29, which is attached to the frame plate 5.
Side flanges 26a of the U-shaped guard 26 are arranged to swing downwardly along the outer edges of the plate I9, and the longitudinal edge of the guard to swing downwardly over the cutting blade, as shown in Fig. 2, under the pulling pressure applied on the end of the tape, and by pressing the tape against the cutting edge, which has been clamped in cutting position, by operating the nut 25, the tape may be severed.
Immediately over the guard 26 a lever 30 is pivoted on the frame plate 5, by means of rivet 1H, and on this lever or arm, presser feet 32, each of spring construction, are mounted, so that they will engage the tape from one of the rolls. The lever or arm 30 may be swung upwardly, so that its presser feet will be out of the path of the tapes, and a fresh roll may be inserted in the holder.
It will be seen that my invention provides a tape holder, which may be strapped to the belt of the workman, and that one of the rolls may be provided with tape of the adhesive friction or tacky type, and another roll provided with heavy rubber tape, and the other rolls, when more than two rolls are used, may be provided with other types of tape, or used for a reserve supply of the two kinds of tape named.
A radio worker, electrician, or repairman, may work continuously, without looking for tape, and without applying more than one hand to the pulling and cutting of the tape, and will therefore do better and more work.
Having described the invention it is understood that various changes in the details of construction, their combination and arrangement may be resorted to, within the scope of the invention, as defined by the claim hereof.
