Description

@nimh `istria @stmt fitte;
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE.
SIMEON P. TUTTLEQOF DEc'ATUniMIcHIeAN Letters Patet No. 60,286, dated December 4, 1 866. 1
SPECIFICATION- TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: w
Be it known that I, S. P. TUTTLE, of Decatur in the county of I'anr` Buren, and State of Michigan, have i `1` invented certain new and useful improvements in Fences; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, t clear, and exact description of the same, reference being.: had to the accompanying drawings `and to the `letters p of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawing, making part of this specication, A and B represent" twsectio'ns or'pannels of y a portable fence. The boards f which these pannels are formed project aboutsiii` inches `ateach end beyond 1 the battons E E, which bind them together. C represents the fence post. y This post has two or more staples i driven into it, as seen at D D. The two pannels are placed against the posits, with the projecting ends of the boards of which they are formed lying against each other, and are held to the post by means of the staples D D, the ends of the pannels resting on said staples. F represents a cap',l which is pivoted to the top of `the postw t C, as seen atX. By turning this cap, as shown in the gure, the pannels are prevented from being raised out t l of the staples, and can only be drawn out endwise. 'The fence pannels could be held together by thelstaples alone,
so long as they were not raised up; but by the use of the cap they are held more securely "imposition, and cannot be raised without removing said cap. With this arrangement it will readilybe seen that by simply turning the i cap any pannel can be removed for the purpose of making a gate. The L-shaped staples orscrewsD Dean be turned one-quarter around for the extraction of a single rail and insertion of one instead, should it become" neeessary, without taking o the entire pannel. It will be observed that each ofthe pannels,`A or B, of themselves,
form a portable gate. A i l Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatengis- The post C, provided with the L-shaped screws or staples D D and cap Ih'when` `used in combination `with`-` t the fence sections A or B,"constructed as described, to form a portable fence, when arranged and used as and 1 p for the purposes set forth. l A s evidence 'that lI claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnessest` l SIMEON P. ll'JfllLlil` Witnesses:
'W. S. DUNNING, S. M. RAwsoN.
