T "O R15 PETERS CD PHOY UYN WAsHlNGrON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OF CE,
DORA HARRISON, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR THE HARRISON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
BOSOM-VPAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 599,180, dated February 15, 1898.
Application filed April 22,1897. Serial No. 633 352. (N0 model-) .To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DoRA HARRISON, of Lansing, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bosom-Pads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to bosom-pads such as shown and described in the Letters Patent of the United States No. 579,824, granted to me on March 30, 1897.
The object of the presentinvention is to provide a new and improved dress-form which is simple and durable in construction readily applied to or removed from the pockets of corsets and other garments, and designed to insure a proper fitting of the dress and to supply natural deficiencies.
The invention consists of certain parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan View of the same.
The improved dress-form is provided with the two inflatable pads A A, made of thin rubber and rendered non-odorous by special treatment. Each of the pads A A is formed with a comparatively flat back A and the semispherical fronts A are formed at their adjacent bases with outwardly extending flanges A cemented together and covered by an annular welt A of rubber, and made U-shaped in cross-section to completely inclose the said flanges A as plainly shown in the drawings. The welt A forms a binding for the said flanges and is secured thereto by cement or other suitable adhesive substance.
On the outer sides of the pads A A are arranged attaching-loops B, cemented or otherwise secured to the welts A and the said loops secure the dress-form within a shell, as shown in the patent above referred to. The dressform may be attached directly to the corset or other garment by safety-pins, sewing, or the like. On the inner sides of the pads A A are arranged the flexible lace-arms O, cemented or otherwise secured to the welts A and formed with apertures for the lacing D to connect the two pads A A with each other.
Each of the pads A A is formed at its side with a filling-tube E for inflating the corresponding pad by the wearer blowing into the filling-tube. After the pad is expanded to the desired degree then the end of the fillingtube is bent upon itself, and the thus doubledup parts are fastened together by a small rubber band, cord, or string F to prevent escape of air and deflation of the pad when in use.
Now by the construction described itis evident that the pads A A, owing to the flat backs A fit snugly onto the body of the wearer, and the two pads can be placed a distance apart, according to the location of the natural breasts of the wearer, by adjusting the lacing D accordingly. I The backs A of course, follow the shape of the natural breasts and extend inwardly into the fronts A when in use,.as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A bosom-pad having two pad-sections, each formed with a back and a front section having meeting edges provided with flanges lying snugly against each other, an annular welt surrounding the flanges at each pad-section and cemented to the flanges to hold the same together, a lace-arm secured to the welt of each pad-section, and lacing adjustably connecting the lace-arms.
DORA HARRISON.
