UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. LEPORIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BREAST-SUPPORTING- CORSET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1912.
Application filed April 11, 1910. Serial No. 554,786.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY F. Lnromlv, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Bronx, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast- Supporting Corsets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The main object of this invention is to provide a simple device for attachment to the inner side of a corset to support the breast.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for use in a corset to support the breast, and which will be non-heating.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corset fitted with my improved device. Fig. 2 a perspective view of the breast support detached. Fig. 3 a plan view of a portion of a corset fitted with the support. Fig. 4: a sectional view of a portion of the corset showing the device in position therein; and Fig. 5 a detail perspective view of the inner side of a portion of a corset, the device being shown in position.
Referring to the various parts by numerals, 1 designates a corset which may be of any desired shape and of any suitable material. In the corset, at the ends of the breast-receiving pockets, are secured eyelets 2. It will, of course, be understood that apertures may be formed in the corset at these points in any suitable manner.
The breast-supporting device 3 consists of a crescent-shaped cushion, approximately circular in cross section at all points in its length, said support, of course, by reason of its crescent shape, tapering from its middle to its ends. The support, at each of its ends, is provided with a loop 4 which may be of any desired material and elastic or non-elastic as may be considered advantageous.
On the outer side of the corset, near the apertures or eyelets 2, are secured buttons, or other similar fastening devices 5. To secure the supports in position, the cord loops 4 are passed outwardly through the eyelets and engaged over the adjoining but tons. This is of great advantage for the reason that the buttons are in a convenient position for manipulation, and the fastening devices, being on the outer side of the corset, will not chafe the breast. But the pads lnav be attached in any other manner desired. U
One breast support is secured in each breast-receiving pocket of the corset and forms, when properly adjusted, a non-heating cushion which holds the breast in proper position, and prevents chafing of the under side of the breast. The peculiar shape of the cushion enables it to fit around the breast and give to it adequate support at all necessary points. The breast rests on the support and is so held up by it that the arms are given greater freedom of action. The breast is held up and forward by reason of the angle at which the support is placed thereby giving the wearer a better form. It is evident that the supports may be removed at will and fresh ones put in their place. I preferably fill the supports with hair or other soft non-heating material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent 1. The combination with a corset of a pair of crescent-shaped pads of substantially circular cross-section tapering to each end, each pad being detachably attached to the inner face of the corset at the breast portion to lie beneath and support the breasts of the wearer along their full width.
2. The combination with a corset, of a pair of crescent-shaped pads of substantially circular cross section, tapering to each end, apertures formed in the corset on each side of each of the breast receiving pockets, fastening devices on the outer side of the corset adjacent each of said apertures, loops on the ends of said pads adapted to pass through said apertures and engage the fastening devices, whereby each of said pads is held snugly against the inner face of the corset at the breast portion and lie beneath and support the breasts of the wearer in natural position along their full width.
This specification signed and witnessed this 8th day of April A. D. 1910.
