VAPORIZBR.
No. 595,432. Patented Dec. 14, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. BELL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
VAPORIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of I Letters Patent No. 595,432, dated December 14, 1897.
Application filed February 20, 1897. Serial No. 624,424. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. BELL, aciti zen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaporizers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to Vaporizers and inhalers; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section through the vaporizer.- Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A is a boiler provided with a projecting shoulder a, which rests upon the top of a cylindrical casing B, so that the lower part of the boiler depends within the casing. The casing is provided With an opening I) for the introduction of a heating-lamp O, and b' are chimney-holes for letting out the products of combustion.
The base D of the casing is provided with a concave plate at for the lamp O to rest on. The lamp is provided with a handle 0 and is thrust through the opening I). The casing is nickel-plated or otherwise ornamented, and the concavity of the plate (:1 causes the flame, of the lamp to be held centrally under the boiler irrespective of the position of the lamp within the casing. The flame is kept away from the casing, so that no part'of it becomes overheated, and the japan or nickel plating is not burned 01f or discolored.
E are handles secured to the casing.
F is an urn which is screwed onto the short pipe f at the top of the boiler. I
G is a plate which forms'the bottom of the urn and which is provided with a slight annular depression or recess 9. The plate G covers the mouth of the pipe f and is provided with a very small hole g.
heat of the lamp slowly converts the water into steam, which issues in a fine stream orjet from the small hole g, carrying with it particles of the chemical. The chemical is vaporized slowly and is carried off by the steam which comes in contact with the central portion of the cotton. The chemical on the outer portions of the cotton and in the-annular recess g is slowly absorbed into the central portion of the cotton, where it can be carried ofi by the steam.
When used as an inhaler, the lid I is placed I on top of the urn and the medicated steam is inhaled either through an extension of the pipe z' or through. an india-rubber tube attached to it.
I do not broadly claim a vaporizer provided with means for projecting a steam-jet through a chamber containing medicine.
What I claim is In a vaporizer, the combination, with a boiler provided with a short pipe at its top, of an urn secured to the said pipe in close proximity to the boiler and provided with an annular recess 9 for medicament and a raised bottom portion G having a pin-hole g in it for forming a steam-jet, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEO. H. BELL.
Witnesses:
FRANK LYBOLT, GEORGE W. LAUBSHIRE.
