UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. PEIRGE, OF MOKENA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN AND WASHING-MACHINE COMBINED Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,447, dated November 6, 1866.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES M. PETROE, of Mokena, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohurns and Washing-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my invention. Fig.2 is a top view with the latches F F closed, to give the circular motion to the stem B. Fig. 3 is a top view with the latches F F opened,to give a vertical motion to the stem and dash, as in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a top view of the dash. Fig. 5 is a side view of the dash. Fig. 6 is a view of the stem B,with pins I inserted, making an apparatus for washing clothes. Fig. 7 is a view of the stem B, on which the dash C may be fastened or the pins I I I inserted.
A represents the twisted iron or other metal which passes through the lever D. Then, the latches F F being closed, a reversible circular motion is given to the stem B and dash O as the lever is raised and pressed down. Then, by opening the latches F F and inserting a pin at (3;, thus fastening the lever D and stem B together, so that by raising and depressing the lever the dash is given a vertical movement, (E represents the support for one end of the lever,) thus combining the reversible rotary and vertical motions by means of the twisted iron or screw, and combining the ch urn and washing-machine in one and thekame machine, all as set forth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The application of the twisted iron or other metal for giving the reversible rotary motion to churn-d ashes and the clothes-stirrer. 2. The combination of the reversible rotary and vertical motions given by the twisted iron, as hereindescribed.
