Description
(No Model.) M. DIS$INGER.
- WASHING MACHINE. No. 478,094. Patented July 5, 1892.
UNITED STATES MICHAEL DISSINGER, OF LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA.
PATENT OFFICE.
WASHING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,094, dated July 5, 1892.
Application filed November 7, 1891. Serial No. 11,159. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL DISSINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vashing-l/Iachines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention relates to washingmachines, and has for its object certain im provements in construction, which will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim. i
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a top plan view; Fig. 2, a vertical section; Fig. 3, an end view; and Fig. 4.- is a detail perspective of the lower supporting-arm; and the lower end of the lever. Reference being had to the drawings and the letters thereon, A indicates the body of a washing-machine, which is mounted upon suitable legs and is provided with a flexible removable wash-board B, held in position on the metallic bottom of the tub by two stops at (only one of which is shown) and a turnbutton b. 'The sides of the body A are of wood, and on one end above the metallic bottom is an extension 0, which forms a tray, and to the sides 0 c or end d of which a clotheswringer may beattached. The bottom of the tray is provided with a sheet-metal lining e, which extends through slots in the sides of the tray, formed by an incision made bya saw, and through the end of the tray and is provided with vertical upturned flanges f, which prevent leakage when water is wrung from the clothes into the tray. Within the body A is suspended the rubber D upon trunnions g g, which rest in seats formed in the sides of'the the body of the machine.
body, and across the upper end of the rubber is a bar 71., to which a post t' is secured, and to the upper end of the post is attached one end of a rod is by a stud Z, which enters the aperture min the post. This pin may be secured to either the rod or the post, but not to both, to provide a ready means for making connection withoutthe use of a bolt and nut. The outer end of the rod kis slotted at n and connected to the lever E by a pin 0 and is adjustable on the lever to regulate the extent of oscillation of'rubber D. The lower end of the lever E is provided with a pin p,'which projects from both sides thereof and rests in open slots or seats formed in the sides 9 g of the horizontal arm '1', secured to one end of By the use of the pin pand the open slotsss in the sides of the arm r the lever E is readily insertible and removable and the pin forms its fulcrum.
F indicates the cover, and is provided with a slot 25, through which the rod 70 works, and
with a vertical flange u,which fills the space between the sides and rests upon the bottom of the tray in the extension 0 and prevents the escape of water when the machine is being operated.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim is- A washing-machine provided with an oscillating rubber, a connecting-rod loosely attached to said post, and a lever having a pin at its lower end, in combination with an arm secured to one end of the machine and having a slotted outer end provided with sides having vertical slots open at their upper ends.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MICHAEL DISSIN Witnesses:
F. S. GosHERT, J OSEPH E. LIGHT.
