- A. S. TOPPING. COMBINED SAW SET, JOINTBR, AND BAKER GAGE. No. 592,069. Patented Oct. 19,1897.
with the parallel gage-lines 3.
UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED s. TOPPING, OF HART, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED SAW-SET, JOINTER, AND RAKER-GAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,069, dated October 19,1897. Application filed April 24,1897. Serial No. 633,779. (No modem To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED STTOPPING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hart, in the county of Oceana and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Saw-Set, J ointer, and Baker-Gage and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combination sawset, jointer, and raker-gage; and the object is to provide a simple, effective, and convenient tool of this class.
To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will behereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference-characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my combined saw-set, raker, and jointer. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
1 represents a rectangular block, preferably formed of tool-steel, audits plane side 2 is formed with a beveled anvil 3, on the face of which is inscribed a series of parallel gagelines 3., and 4. is a recess formed in the rightangular side 5 of the block Which receives the gage 6, provided with a slot 7, through which a set-screw 8 passes to adj ustably secure said gage in place. This gage 6 is provided with a pointer 9, adapted to register The opposite end 10 of the block 1 is formed at a right angle to the body.
11 represents a clamping jaw provided with integral parallel arms 12 12, sliding in corresponding guide-grooves 13 13, longitudinally arranged in the block.
14. represents a set-screw extending through the jaw 11 and engaging a correspondinglythreaded orifice 15 in the contiguous end of the bar, and a flat float-file is clamped in place between said jaw and bar-to form a jointer for evening the teeth.
16 represents the raker-gage, and it is pro vided with a slot 17, through which a setscrew 18 passes to ad justably secure the same to the side 5 of the block. This raker-gage 16 is provided with a longitudinal gage-line 19, and20 20 represent fixed gage-lines on the side of the bar, so that the raker-gage may be quickly and accuratelyadjusted to give the proper cut to the rake-teeth.
' Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combined saw-set, j ointer and rake-gage, comprising the rectangular block 1, having its plane side 2 formed wit-ha beveled face 3, provided with a series of parallel gage-lines 3', a recess 4 formed in its side 5, a gage 6 adjustably secured to said recess and provided with a pointer 9, adapted to register with the gage-lines 3; the jointer-jaw 11 adjustably secured tothe opposite end of said bar by the set-screw 14, and the raker-gage 16 adj ustably secu red to the side 5 by the setscrew 18 and provided With the longitudinal parallel gage-line 19, adapted to register with the fixed gage-lines 20 20 on the same side of the bar, substantially as shown anddescribed.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED 's. TOPPING.
