APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 10,1904.

PATENT @EEicE.
ROY I. FOREMAN, OF \VATSEKA. ILLINOIS.
SAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,121, dated February '7', 1905.
Application filed June 10, 1904. Serial No. 212,029.
To u// /I/1/)I)I/ if may concern:
Be it known that I, Rorl. FORIGMAN, aciti zen of the United States, residing at \Vatseka, in the county of Iroquois, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saws; and Idohercby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
'llhis invention relates to saws; and it has for its object to provide a construction including a plurality of blades connected to stand parallel and adjustable toward and away from each other, so that they may be simultaneously operated to cut sticks or plants in sections of various lengths, a further object of the invention being to provide means for accurately determining the distance between the cuts.
111 the drawings forming a portion of this specification, in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in both views,
Ergure l is a perspective View of the tool.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the' handle and the cross-bar on which it is mounted.
het'erring now to the drawings, there are shown two saw- blades 5 and 6, the blade 5 having rigidly secured thereto at its upper edge the three laterally-extending parallel bars T, b, and 9, upon the upper face of which are marked scales representing inches and fractions of inches, as illustrated. Projecting upwardly from the upper edge of the blade 6 are guides 10, 11, and 12, through which are slid-ably engaged the bars, so that the blades may be adjusted toward and away from each other. in fixed relation, the guides are provided with thumb-screws 13, which are adjustable into and out of engagement with the bars to hold the blade 6 in lixed relation thereto. A handle 15 is provided having a passage 16 therethrough, which slidably receives the bar 9, so that after the blades have been adjusted in proper spaced relation the handle may be adjusted to lie midway between the blades and in which position it is held by a set-screw IT.
From the above description it will be seen that there is provided a saw which is extremely simple in construction, in which the blades will be held rigidly, and which may be easily and quickly adjusted to suit dilferent conditions of use. The scales on the bars permit the blades to be accurately set the proper distance apart.
\Vhat is claimed is A handsaw comprising a pair of blades, parallel bars secured to one of the blades, the other blade having guides at its upper edge through which the bars are slidably engaged, set-screws engaged with the guides and adapted to impinge against the bars, said bars being provided with scales, and a handle slidably mounted upon one of the bars between the blades and having means for holding it in lixed position.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
hOY l. FORICMAN.
