SHUTTER BOWER AND FASTENER.l

Application ned retmry 16, i897. seein no. 623,655. cre noden bowers and fasteners; and the object of the` invention is to provide a device of this kind which shall be exceedingly cheap and simple in construction, easily operated, and one which can be applied to any of the shutters now in use.
The invention consists in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which Will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a view showingthe practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a face view of the device complete, the locking-bolt being thrown into operation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 A t 'of Fig. 2.n
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on Vthe'llinei i of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 vis a detail perspective View of the bowing-bolts connected. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the sectional construction of bowing-bolt.
In carrying out my invention I employ two plates A and A', respectively, the plate A being slightly longer than the plate A, said plates bein g attached to the inner facesv of the.
shut-ters or blinds, as most clearly shown in Fig. l, and arranged upon the said plates are the tubular or barrel-shaped locking-casings B and B', in which slide the bowing-bolts C and C', respectively, said bolts being operated by means of knobs C2 and C3,- respectively, Which work in the longitudinal 'slotsCif and C5, produced in the casings B and B. `The end of the bolt C is provided with a hook C6, and the end of the bolt C is provided with an eye C7, adapted to receive the hook of the opposing bolt, said .bolts having a certain amount ofplay within the casings, so that engagement.
seen that the shutters or blinds can be connected at their outer edges by a suitable construction of hinged joint, and in order to lock the bolts within the casings or housings I em ploy the spring-catches C8, which engage recesses C, produced in the bolts C and C', the engaging ends of the'spring-catches Working through the openings C10, produced in the tops of the housings or casings. By this arrangement either of the bolts can be adjusted, as
desired, and then locked inthe adjusted position, so that it will be impossible to open 0r close the shutters from the outside.
Directly below the casings B and B are the rectangular-shaped housings D and D', re spectively, the housing D carrying a lockingbolt E, which is operated by means of a suit,- able knob E', which works through a slot in the bottom of the casing.
The bolt E is adapted to be projected into the casing D for the purpose of locking the blinds or shutters Whenever in a closed position, and in order to limit the backward movement of the said bolt Iemploy a spring F, -which is attached to the inner face of said bolt and is adapted to'engage the rear wall of the recess G, 'produced near the rear end of the plate A.
In Fig. 6 I have illustrated the construction ofa bowing-bolt, which is composed of the sections H and H', hinged at H2, `the bolt in other details being exactly the saine as that previously described, and the object of the hinged joint is to permit the blinds to be bowed and separated a distance at least equal to the lengthof the section H.'
Suitable Arings I are attached to the plates for the purpose of swinging the blinds or shutters in or out.
It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap, simple',"'and efticient construction of combined shutter bower and fastener, and one which will carry out all of the objects'for which it is intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire't'o secure by Letters Patent, is- 7 l. In a device of'the kind described, the combination with the casings, of the bowing-` vbolts-arranged therein, one of which has a hook and the other an eye, the spring'fcatches for securing the saidlbolts, andpperatingf IOO mechanism, substantially :is shown and decatches adapted to work through the easings seribed. and engage the recesses in lhe bolts, substan- 2.
