To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. S. PER- RY, of the city, county. and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Blind Closers and Locks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of one of my improved window-blind closers and locks, illustrating its use, the blind being shown open and in section through the line w w x a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, the blind being shown open, and with its upper part broken away. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken through the line yy, Fig. 2, the blind being shown closed.

The object of this invention is to provide window-blind closers and locks constructed in such a manner that the blinds can be readily closed without its being necessary to extend the arm out of the windows to release the said blinds from their open positions, and by means of which the blinds can be locked in place when closed.

The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

A represents the wall of a building, B a window-casing, and C an ordinary windowblind. Disanordinaryfastening-latch,which, when the blind O is open, engages with a catch, E, attached to the wall A, and when the blind G is closed engages with a catch, F, attached to the bottom of the casing B. The latch D passes through a slot in the bottom bar of the blind O, and through a slot in a plate, G, attached to the said bar, and is kept in place by a spring, H, attached to the saidplate G. The end of the spring H enters a recessin the edge ofthe latch D, a corresponding recess in the other edge of the said latch receiving the edge of the plate G and hinging the said latch in place. The spring H also brings the latch D into place after being swung back to disconnect it from the catch E or F, and holds it in position to engage with the said catches when the blind O is swung open or shut.

The rod I is provided with an offset at i, and

has a joint, L, formed in it near the-offset and between the latch D and the adjacent keeper J, so that the said rod can slide in a straight .line through the keepers J, while its forward end moves through the arc of a circle with the end of the latch D.

The movement of the jointed rod I is limited by a pin, M, attached to it, and which passes through a slot, N, in one of the keepers J.

The jointed rod I is made of such a length that the thumb-piece K will be near the hinged edge of the blind C, so that it can be reached when the blind is open, and operated to un fasten the said blind without its. being necessary for the operator to lean out of the win- .dow or-to extend his arm out of the window to close the blind.

To the blind 0, near its lower outer corner, is pivoted a hook-catch, O, the engaging end of which is made in wedge form, to engage with a shoulder, P, formed upon the edge of the inner end of the latch D, to lock the said latch in place when the blind G is closed, and thus prevent the said latch from being unfastened from outside the window.

To the blindG is attached a pin, Q, or other stop, to prevent the hook-catch 0 from being swung back too far when disengaged from the latch D.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

- 1. A shutterfastener consisting of a latch adaptedto be held in a slot in the blind and projecting from opposite sides of the same to engage alternately catches on the wall and easing, a spring engaging the latch, a sliding jointed rod connected to said latch, and a hooked catch pivoted to the blind and adapted to engage the latch, as set forth.
