' useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to envelops, and has for its object to provide a simple and improved safety-envelop which cannot be opened without leaving permanent and conclusive evidence of such operation, and which will, fur-- thermore, possess advantages in'point of simplicity, inexpensiveness, convenience, safety, and general efficiency.
My improved safety-envelop may be made of any size and its main features of any suitable shape or construction, my invention consisting chiefly in the end attachment of construction by which unauthorized opening of the envelop without detection is obviated.
Referring to the drawingsligure 1 is aplan view of apaper blank from which my improved envelop is constructed. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional-view taken on a line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan View showing the body-flap folded over. Fig. 5 is a corresponding view showing one of the side flapsfolded over. I Fig. 6 is a plan view illustrating an envelop in its commercial manufactured condition readyfor use. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the envelop in a finished condition illustrated in Fig. 6.
Referring to the drawings, Adesignates the body portion of the envelop, which forms the face-flap. On opposite sides of the flap A are provided flaps B and B, respectively, having tongues b and Z). From one end of the facefiap A extends a sealing-flap C. On the opposite end of the face-flap A extends a bodyflap D, which forms the back of the body of the envelop. At the outer end of the back-flap D is provided a supplementary flap E, which extends transversely across the main flap D and forms oonjointly therewith a doubleend flap, as shown at cl. The supplementary end strip or flap E is secured at its inner end or edge by gumming or in any other suitable manner to the inner face of the flap D, as shown.

In the manufacture of my improved safetyenvelop the body-flap D is first folded into position to form the back of the envelop, (see Fig. 4,) and the flaps B and B are folded down upon said back-flap. (See Figs. 5 and 6.) The inner edges of the flaps B and B are gummed, as shown at g, and the inner faces of the tongues 17 and b are likewise gummed, as shown at g. The tongue dis passed through the slit 5 of the flap B,while the tongues 12 and Z) are passed through and under the slit 5 of the flap B, and the outer face of the tongues 12 and Z'),'which is thus inserted under the flap B, is also preferably gummed, as at g The flaps B and B are thus securely sealed together and to the back-flap D, thus forming a complete open-end envelop, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, ready for use. The inner edge of the sealingflap Ois gummed, as shown at 9 and to permanently seal the envelop this sealing-flap G is inserted within or between the double flap d and sealed down upon the supplementary flap E, when the end of the back-flap D may be scaled down upon the end flap C by means of a gumrned edge or inner surface, (shown in dotted lines at 9 Fig. 1.)
