Description

A. B. JONES. NEGKTIE FASTENER (No Model.)
No. 588,864. Patented Aug. 24,1897.
A4 ("Mm/M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' ALBERT B. JoNEs, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,864, dated August 24, 1897.
Application filed August 24, 1896 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT B. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to'which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in necktie-fasteners, the object of the same being to provide a device which will prevent a necktie from rising up over the top of a standing collar.
The invention consists of a fastener made up of a plate having an inturned flange at its lower end adapted tobe passed beneath the lower edge of the collar, a pin mounted upon the outside .of said plate extending transversely thereof and bent back upon itself, and a guard for the projecting end of said pin.
The invention also consists in other details of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a collar and a necktie with my improved fastenin g device applied thereto, the parts being broken away to show more clearly the construction. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Fig. 3' is a detail perspective view of the fastener with the pin in its open position. Fig. 4 is a similar View showing the pin in its locked position.
Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
My improved fastening device is made up of a plate 1, having a flange 2 at its lower end, which extends inwardly and is bent back upon itself. This flange is adapted to be passed beneath the lower edge of the collar 3, with said collar fitting between it and the plate 1. Secured to the upper end of the plate 1, located on the outside and extending $eria11To. 608,721. on model.)
transversely thereof, is a pin 4, which is bent back upon itself, after the manner of an ordinary safety-pin. The outer projecting end 5 thereof is adapted to be locked by means of a guard 6, consisting of a pivotally-mounted plate with an inturned end. The pin 4 is 5 5 adapted to be inserted through the scarf or necktie 7 and the projecting end of said pin afterward passed beneath the guard 6, holding the parts firmly in place. The fiange'2 upon the lower end of the plate 1 is then passed beneath the collar 3, either after or during the act of tying the necktie.
The device is extremely simple in construction, can be cheaply made, and will answer a want which is almost universal.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I 1. The herein-described necktie-fastener, consisting of a plate having an inturned up- .wardly-extending flange at its lower end which is adapted to be passed around the lower edge of the collar, a pin secured to the outside of said plate having an inwardlyprojeeting end adapted to be passed through the necktie, and a guard for said pin, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The herein-described necktie-fastener, consisting of a plate having an inturned upwardlyextending flange at its lower end which is adapted to be passed around the lower edge of the collar, a pin secured to the outside of said plate having an inwardlyprojecting end adapted to be passed through the necktie, and a guard for said pin, consisting of a pivotally-mounted plate having an inturned end between which and the main body of said plate said pin is adapted to be inserted, substantially as and for the purpose described. 0
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT B. JONES.
