SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 587,755, dated August 10, 1897.
Application filed July 27,1895. Serial No; 557,360. (No model.) Patented in Germany October 4, 1894, No. 82,277; in Switzerland May 22, 1895, No. 10,267, and in England May 30,1895,N0.10,738.

In the accompanying drawing the figure is a side elevation.
The protecting device consists in a number of balls arranged side by side on a rod and of such dimensions that the hand of a child covers only a part of the ball and cannot hold it. This row of balls is arranged on the length sides of the carriage, Where children generally place their hands when they try to get up. As soon as a baby tries to get hold of the sides of the carriage in order to stand up therein or to lean over one of the edges of the carriage the balls A turn .toward the inside, the hand slips off consequently,and the child is prevented from rising.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A babys carriage having on the side ofthe basket or body of the carriage balls A A pivoted and adapted to turn when grasped, substantially as set forth.
