To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known that I, GASTON L. JAo UoT, a
of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exercising Appak ratus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to exercising and amusement apparatus for children.
The main object of the invention is to provide a simple apparatus for developing the muscles of a baby from six months to two years old and which simultaneously amuses the child.
Another object is to so construct such an apparatus that all the principal musclesof the child will be exercised at the same time, for instancehis arms, hands, legs, toes, abdomen, back and neck. Another object is to provide an apparatus of this class in which the child may be placed and which while capable of being rocked has means to prevent its creeping.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the apparatus constituting this invention shown in use,
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the rockers showing its anti-creeping surface.
In the embodiment illustrated, a container 7, 1 is shown mounted on a pair of rockers 2 which are of sufficient length to prevent all possibility of the container being upset dur-,
ing the rocking operation. These rockers have integral bosses 3 arranged midway their length on their upper faces which are made rectilinear to receive and support a platform 4. Secured to this platform 4 are side bars 5 from which rise standards 6, four of which are here shown, one being ar- Specification of Letters Paten t.
ranged at each corner of the container. The upper ends of these standards are connected by a hand rail 7, said standards being about eighteen inches high, more or less.
Patented Jan. *7, 19 19. Application filed June 3, 1918. Serial No. 238,007.
A plurality of side railsS also connect the standards intermediate their ends and are designed to prevent a child from passing between them. The container is of a size to permit the child to stand therein but not to sit down and is of a height to prevent the child from falling over the top. This container flares toward its upper end so that ample space is given to the child to move his body backward and forward during the rocking motion. r 7
The rockers 2 are provided on their lower faces with an anti-creeping surface 4, which is preferably formed of canvas which performs the double function of a bumper to prevent injury tothe floor and to prevent the apparatus from creeping.
It will thusbe seen that with an apparatus constructed as above described a child placed in the container 1 in standing position will grasp the hand rail 7'and in swinging himself back and forth will rock the container and simultaneously exercise all of the muscles of his body. This rocking motion will also serve to amuse'the child.
The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, ma-
terials, dimensions, etc, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
' 1. An apparatus of the. class described comprlslng a pair of rockers carrying a platform midway their ends, said platform being of a size to permit a child to stand there-- 2. An apparatus of the class described comprising a pair of rockers'carrying a platform m dway the1r ends, and a container of a height and size to hold the child in an erect position only, said container being mounted on said platform and flaring toward its upper end to permit rocking movement of the child.
3. An apparatus of the class described comprising a pair of rockers carrying a platform midway their ends, uprights rising from said platform, a hand bar connecting said uprights at their upper ends, and cross bars connecting said uprights midway, their 10 ends.
4. A device of the class described comprising a rocking element having an upstanding boss midway its ends, a platform mounted onrsaid boss, a .pendike container mounted on said platform and having a hand grip at its upper end, said container GASTON L. J ACQUOT.
