UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIDER' VON VITAL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BELT-FA'STENER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 587,025, dated July 27, 1897. Application filed 11 23, 1896. Serial No. 596,591. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DESIDER VON VITAL, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Belt-Fasteners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of abelt-fastener constructed of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of a belt-fastener embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 represents an end view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a frame formed of the cross-bars B and side plates 0. Pivoted to said plates 0 are jaws D, which extend parallel with the cross-bars B and are adapted to move to and from the same. On the faces of each bar B and the adjacent jaw D are spurs E and F, which The spurs F on each of the jaws D are nearer to the axis of the same than are the spurs on the cross-bars.
It will be seen that each end portion of a belt is bent on itself, one length being passed between the cross-bar and jaw and the other length rested against the under side of said jaw, the bend of the belt being at the back of the jaw as a bite and the strain or draw being on the under length and from the jaw.
It will be seen that the jaws are forced toward the cross-bars and the end portions of the belt held tightly in position by the pressure of said parts, so that slipping of the same is prevented.
The ends of the side plates 0 are extended beyond the axes of the jaws, forming lips G, which when the jaws are closed cover the sides of the latter to prevent any possible lateral displacement of the belt and act as guards to receive the thrust of the jaws should they be subjected to lateral strain.
It will be readily understood that the devicecan be quickly adjusted and that by using the fastener there is no necessity of punching-holes in the belt; but if the latter has holes before the fastener has been applied it will not prevent the use of said fastener and the belt is in no way weakened.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A belt-fastener consisting of the two side
