PATENT OFFICE.
ONESIME C. BELOIN, OF RIVERSIDE, RHODE ISLAND.
FOLDING TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 586,112, dated July 13, 1897.
Application filed December 26, 1896. Serial No. 617,091- (lTo model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ONESIME O. BELOIN, residing at Riverside, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in .Folding Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Like letters indicate like parts.
This invention consists in a folding table such'as used by paper-hangers; and the object of my invention is the construction of such a table in a manner that it may be easily carried and at the same time occupy a small space, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved table. Fig. 2 is an inverted View of the same. Fig. 3 is an endview of the table. Fig. 4 represents the table as folded up for transportation. Fig. 5 is an enlarged view taken in line ,2 z of Fig. 1, showing one of the central legs with its movable and stationary hinge-joints, respectively. Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the movable joint, taken in line x 00 of Figs. 1 and 5. Fig. 7 is a cross-sectional view of the stationaryjoint, taken in line y y of Figs. 1 and 5.
In the drawings, A represents the tabletop, which is made of thin boards of two sections a and b and separating on the line 6. (See Fig. 2.) The sections are jointed across the line e by hinges ff, (shown in Figs. 4 and 5,) said hinges made fast upon the central legs B. The sections are provided with transverse cleats g g and h h, screwed to the under side thereof, and upon which the hinge-joints f f are fastened. The central legs B have each a sleeve 8 loosely fitted thereon and provided with ears 2'.
C O are outer braces having their upper ends held together by a single hinge j, screwed thereon, the joint of which enters between the ears of the movable sleeve 8 and secured by the pin Z. The lower ends of the braces C O are fastened to the outer side of the legs D D by pins 1% m. The central legs B B are further provided at their lower portion (see Fig. 5) with a stationary plate n a, screwed thereon, said legs being made narrower to receive the thickness of the inner braces E E, which are held together at their upper ends by the hinge r, screwed thereon and having its joint pivoted on the pin 50, made fast to the leg. A cross-piece y extends between the legs B B at this lower joint and supports the two in position. The end legs D D have cross-pieces t t at top and bottom, respectively, and said legs swing on hinges 'u 4), made fast to the top cross-piece t of the frame of the leg and to the cleat h of the table-top. The lower ends of the braces E E are placed between the outer braces O C and the legs D D and move on the pins m m. The hinges j and 'r of the central legs B B consist each in a flat plate let into the braces O O and E E, respectively, with pins Z and p to form joints for permitting the sections a and b of the ta ble-top to be folded over and bringing the framework together, as shown in Fig. 4. When so folded together, it will be observed that the movable sleeve 3, carrying the pin Z, has slipped down on the central leg B, and by this movement brings the outer braces C G and E E closely together, and with them the top-sections a and b of the table.
The legs B B are made narrower at. their lower extremity to allow of the outer braces overlapping the inner braces when folded together.
My invention differs from others heretofore constructed by this system of leverage, which provides a very simple and compact folding table.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sectional folding table divided into two boards a and b and having its top provided with legs B B and D D said legs connected to the top-sections by hinges f f and o 'u as set forth, the central legs B B having a supporting cross-piece y, said legs provided with movable sleeves s s with pins -Z Z, with the stationary plates at or having fixed pins 19 1), said pins Z Z, and p 19 carrying, respectively, the outer and inner side braces O O and E E, said braces being provided with hinges j j and a" r fastened thereon, the end legs .D D having cross-pieces t t at top and bottom, with pinsm m for connecting the ends of the outer and inner braces O O and E E and legs D D respectively, substantially as shown and described.
ONESIME C. BELOIN.
