HARLEY M. BROOK, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
ADJUSTABLE FOLDING HURDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1912.
Application filed September 15, 1911. Serial No. 649,469.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLEY M. BROOK, citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Folding Hurdles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The objects of my improvement are: to provide a hurdle which may be set up and adjusted for height, and which may be folded to a small compact bundle, without disconnecting or separating the relative parts, so that each bundle will be a hurdle complete in itself, the different parts being secured to each other by flexible joints, requiring only to be unfolded and placed into adjustment. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the hurdle unfolded and adjusted to the lowest point. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the hurdle as it appears folded. Figs. 3 and 4 are views showing in detail the'keyhole slot and pin for adjusting the height of the hurdle. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the foot block un folded. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the foot block folded. Fig. 7 is a side view partly sectional showing in detail the flexible joint for holding the foot block in open position. Fig. 8 is a side view of the foot block folded.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The top bar a, the cross legs 6 and a with the foot blocks d compose the folding parts of the hurdle. The cross legs are secured in the middle to each other by the pivot e, the top bar is secured at one end by pivot f, to the top of cross leg 0, and the other end is provided with a series of keyhole slots 9 adapted to secure the pin h, which is secured to the top end of cross leg 5. The foot blocks cl are secured to the down ends of the cross legs by a flexible connection consisting of a bolt 71 passing through the cross legs and foot blocks and held in position by the spring is. The foot blocks are each provided with a cross slot m adapted to receive the lower end of the cross legs Z) and 0 when the foot blocks are unfolded for use, thereby holding the foot blocks rigidly at right angles to the cross legs. The legs 72 and 0 are held in contact with the slot in blocks d by the pressure of the spring is. To allow for folding the spring 70 is made with suflicient room for compression to allow the legs 6 and c to be lifted out of the slot m, while the blocks 05 are being turned at right angles and parallel to the legs 6 and c. The top bar a is provided with a scale of divisions numbered at each point of adjustment to correspond with the height of the hurdle at this point of adjustment.
To fold up the hurdle, are lifted out of slots m in blocks d and the blocks are turned parallel to the legs, the pin it is disconnected from the keyhole slot 9 in top bar a and the cross legs and top bar are then free to drop down parallel to each other, and the entire hurdle is folded into a compact bundle easy to handle and pack for shipment.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A folding hurdle composed of pivoted cross legs, each leg provided with a foldable foot block, and a top bar foldably connected to the top of one cross leg, and the opposite end of said top bar being adjustably and detachably connectable to the opposite cross le 2 The folding hurdle composed of pivoted cross legs each having a pivoted folding block and a top bar pivotally connected to the upper end of one of said cross legs while the opposite end of said top bar is detachably connected to the top of the opposite cross leg.
3. The folding hurdle composed of a pair of pivoted cross legs, each having a foldable foot block attached to the bottom end, and a top bar connected to the top of one cross leg the legs 6 and c by a pivoted joint, While the opposite end In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, pf slaiil top bar dis prgvided with a series of in presence of two Witnesses. :ey 0 e slots a a te to be engaged b a pin secured to the liop of the remaining cr oss HARLEY BROOK' 5 leg for the purpose of temporarily locking Witnesses:
