TIE-HOLDER AND COLLAR-BRACE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,775, dated July 6, 1897.

To all whom it may concern:

Beitknown that I, WILLIAM W MOCALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful I improvements in Tie-Holders and Collar-Braces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to an improvement in tie-holders and collar-supports.

It relates particularlyto the class of tieholders which are secured to the back of the collar and are designed to prevent the displacement of the band which encircles the collar and secures the tie in position.

The object ofjmy invention is to provide a tie-holder which is cheap to manufacture, easy to apply, and will prevent the slipping up of the band that secures the tie to the collar.

My invention provides, further, a collarbrace designed to prevent the collar from having contact with the back of the neck and by holding the collar away from the neck avoids the absorption of perspiration and soiling of the collar.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrative of my invention, Figure 1 represents a front elevation view. Fig. 2 represents a central vertical sectional View of a collar having the tie-holder attached. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view taken from the front. Fig. 4 represents a vertical sectional view taken on the dotted line 0 d of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 represents an end elevation in which the upper portion of the tie-holder is bent rearwardly at a point corresponding to the dotted line a b of Fig. 1.

The tie-holder consists of a strip composed, preferably,of a metal possessing considerable resiliency, such as spring brass or steel or German silver or aluminium. The strip is preferably arcuate in form and is designated in the drawings by the letter A.

13 indicates two vertical portions bent rearwardly and upwardly from the ends of the body portion A. Each portion B at its upper end is bent rearwardly, as indicated by C.

In one form of my invention, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the upper portion of the bodyA, as

indicated by I), is bent rearwardly, and thus serves not only to keep the collar from touching the neck, but also gives the tie-holder a certain amount of rigidity, which is a desirable feature.

In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 5 the bodyAis bent rearwardly about on the horizontal plane indicated by the dotted line a b of Fig. 1.

In order to better secure the tie-holder to the collar, the portions indicated by B are preferably bent forwardly sufficiently for the upper ends of said portions to rest against the rear side of the body A, as indicated in Figs. 4 and 5.

My invention is applied to the collar by inserting the rear lower edge of the collar between the arms ]3, which are sprung rearwardly at their upper ends for this purpose. The collar is then secured to the shirt in the ordinary manner. The tie is then secured in its position in the ordinary manner, the band which encircles the collar being passed under the rearwardly-proj ectin g ends 0. The rearward inclination given to the upper portion of the tie-holderserves to hold the collar away from the neck at its rear side.

Numerous modifications of my invention may be made without departing from its spirit.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A tie-holder and collar-brace comprising a substantially upright body portion having at its lower end a rearwardly and upwardly extending portion the upper end of which projects rearwardly, substantially as described.

In atie-holderand collar-brace, the plate comprising an arc-shaped body portion, a portion of the upper end of which is rearwardly inclined, and the ends of which form two parallel extensions whichare bent rearwardly and upwardly, the extreme ends of the parallel portions being rearwardly bent, substantially as described.

3. As an article of manufacture an arcshaped plate having the upper end of the are bent rearwardly, and provided at the ends of the are with two upwardly-bent arms the upper ends of which are bent rearwardly, substantially as described.

4. In a tie-holder and collar-brace, the arcuate body portion A provided with the parallel extensions 13 which are bent rearwardly and then upwardly, the upper ends of the extensions B resting against the rear side of the body A and having the rearward projections O, the body portion A having a portion of its upper end rearwardly bent, substantially as described. I

5. A tie-holder and collar-brace comprising which projects rearwardly, substantially as described.
