Description
U. REYNOLDS.
Carriage-Body Loop.
Patented Sept 25, 1866.
N PETERS, FHOTO-LITHDGRAFHER. WQSHINGYON. D, G
UEL REYNOLDS, OF NEW YORK, N; Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BODY-TOPS FOR CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,292, dated September 25, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, UEL REYNOLDS, of the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use, a certain new and useful Improvement in Body-Loops for (larriages, &c and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a side. view of the body-loop applied to the end of the spring-bar, and Fig. 2 represents a portion of the end of the springbar with the body-loop attached.
Similar letters refer to the same parts.
It has been usual heretofore to rest the end of the body-loop upon the spring-bar, and attach the same by a bolt passing through the said body-loop and the wooden spring-bar. This greatly weakens the spring-bar and renders it liable to split, particularly in light carriages, when the wooden spring-bar is small.
The nature of my said invention consists in a clip body-loop, the same being a new article ofmanufacture, formed as a metal loop extending from the under side of the carriage-body to the upper side of the spring-bar, and to which it is attached by a clip, formed at the end of said metal body-loop, so that the wooden spring'bar is not injured or weakened by being perforated.
In the drawings, a represents a portion of the wooden spring-bar; b, a portion of the corner of the carriage-body. 0 is the metal body-loop, formed as a strap attached to the under side of the body at the corner and extending out over the wooden spring-bar a.
cl is the clip formed at the end of the bodyloop 0, to surround said wooden spring bar a, and be firmly attached thereto by the clamp in g action of the nuts 6 0.
It will be evident that the clip-part (I might be inverted, the nut s e a being above the body- -loop 0, the clip being formed as a strap passin g below the end of the spring-bar a, and the body-loop having holes through which the ends of the clip pass to the nuts above said bodyloop.
1 do not claim attaching a spring to the spring-bar by means of a clip, as that has before been done. My body-loop is not a spring it only forms a rigid attachment between the corners of the carriage and the spring-bar, and is a new article of manufacture.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The clip body-loop constructed as and ftr the purposes specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 5th day of March, 1866.
UEL REYNOLDS. WVittnesses:
GEO. D. WALKER, OHAs. H. SMITH.
