The annular packing H, of cork, is designed The invention is fully disclosed in the folto prevent the contents of the bottle from lowing specification, of which the accompanyreaching the spring E, and the disk L may be ing drawings form a part, in which I have of any desired shape or size, but is so formed zo shown my invention applied to a bottle, and as to be forced into the neck of the bottle with- 7o in whichout breaking or otherwise injuring the same. Figure l is a central vertical section of the Then it is desired to empty the bottle, the upper part of a bottle and the neck thereof cork Ir is withdrawn in the usual manner, provided with my improvement, and Eig. 2 and this operation collapses the disk L, and r 5 a similar view of a modified form of constructhis condition of the disk or the absence therc- 75 tion. of will be proof that the bottle has once been In the practice of myinvention I provide a iilled and emptied, and I may also place on bottle A, having a neck B, withinwhich is said disk the name of the manufacturer or formed, near the end Jthereof, an annular proprietor of the contents of the bottle, and ;o groove C, and I also employ a stopper consista suitable label may be placed on said bottle, ing of a tubular casing D, which is adapted describing the disk L and the object thereof. at its upper end to closely fit the inner walls In the construction shown in Fig. 2 I subof the neck B and which is also provided with stitute for the disk L a ring M, which is prefan annular groove E, which corresponds with erably made in sections, said sections being 5 the annular groove O in the neck and which connected with the lower end of the cork\in 85 is adapted to register therewith, and placed any desired manner, and the separate parts in said groove is a split spring-ring F, which thereof may be composed of glass or any dewhen the tubular casing D is forced into the sired material which will not be aifected by neck is adapted to expand into the groove O, the contents of the bottle, and when the cork To so as to prevent the removalof said tubular K is pulled out the separate parts of the ring 9o casing. M will be detached and drop into the bottle, The lower part of the tubular casing D is and they cannot be afterward connected with cut away, so as to form an annular chamber another cork, for the reason that in order to G, in which is placed a tubular packing II, of do this the tubular casing D must first be rej. 5 cork or similar material, and I also provide a moved, and this cannot be done without break- 95 cylindrical cork or plug K, which is adapted ing off the neck of the bottle. The operation to be forced into the tubular casing D, and of this form of construction will be substansecured to the lower end of said cork or plug tially the same as that hereinbefore described, K is a disk L, of spun glass, mica, or simil-ar and it will thus be seen that I accomplish the o flexible and non-corrosive material, which object of my invention by means of a device Ioo which is Well adapted to produce the result for which it is intended and which does not add materially to thc cost of the bottle.
The stopper herein shown and described may be placed lower in ythe neck of the bottle, if desired, and an ordinary cork may be inserted above the same, and other changes in and modifications of the construction herein described inay be inade Without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination With a bottle having an annular interior groove C, near the orifice of the neck, of a tubular casing D adapted to fit Within. the neck of the bottle and having annular exterior grooves E adapted to register With the groove C and a spring-ring F adapted to engage said grooves and retain said tubular extension Within the bottle-neck, the lower end of said tubular casing being restricted or cut away, a tubular packing-ring I-I secured in said cut-away portion, a cork or plug K adapted to enter said casing and a disk upon said cork, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 10th day of June, 1896.
