UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALLEN L. CLARK, OF JACKSON, TENNESSEE.
CLEVIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,107, dated April 6, 189'?. Application led September 26, 1896. Serial No. 607,091. (No model.)
T @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN LONG CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Madison and State of Tennessee, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Clevises, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has relation to clevises adapted especially to be used on plows; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangenient of its parts as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of the end of the plow-beam with my clevis attached thereto. Fig. 2 is an end view of the clevis proper. Fig. 3 is a top view of the rear part of the shank that engages the clevis.
The clevis is provided with the perpendicular plate l, said plate having a series of lateral perforations 2 2. At the back of the plate l and on each side of the same is an abutting surface 3 3. The clevis is secured to the beam in any suitable manner.
The tree-supportais provided with the rearwardly-extending shank 5. Said shank is integral with the support. The rear end of the shank 5 is bifurcated. (See Fig. 3.) The bolt 6 passes through suitable perforations in the bifurcations and is adapted to retain the support on the clevis. At the rear ends of the bifurcations of shank 5, and at the lower edges of the same, are projections 7 7. Said projections are adapted to bear against the surfaces 3 3. Thus the supporta is retained in a horizontal position.
The upper rear corners of the bifurcations of the shank 5 are rounded o, as at 8. (See Fig. l.) Thus the outer end of the tree-support 4 may be swung up. This is desirable when the support is being shifted from one perforation 2 to another.
Having describedv my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clevis having a perpendicular plate provided with a series of perforations; an abutting surface located at each side of the back of said plate; a tree-support having a bifurcated shank, said bifurcations having opposite perforations located at an intermediate point; a bolt adapted to pass through the per forations inthe bifurcations and a perforation in the plate, said bolt thereby forming a pivotal point; the rear ends of the bifurcations adapted to rest against said abutting surfaces; the rear ends of the bifurcations having downward projections, and the upper rear corners of the bifurcations being rounded.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALLEN L. CLARK.
