HARNESS-BUCKLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 5,790, dated Septembenl), 1848.

To all 'whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, REUBEN A. HOLMES, of the city, count-y, and lState of New York, have invented a new and useful Buckle for Connecting HorseHarness and for other Purposes; and'I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction and application thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which-k Figure 1 isa perspective view showing the construction of the buckle, and Fig. 2 represents the mode of connecting harness work thereby.

This buckle consists of a hollow metallic case A, the sides and bottom (or face) of which are slightly convex, and withinwhich are two round cross-bars b, '0, which extend from side to side, and are permanently secured therein. To one of these crossbars the tongue CZ is connected, one end thereof At each end of the case is an aperture to receive the straps to be connected.

E F, Fig, 2, are sections of straps coni nected by the buckle,each strap passing over f one of the cross-bars and being secured by the tongue which passes through the strap. Thisbuckle is not restricted to any particular position, but is intended to be generally adjusted :so thatthe plain face side shall appear in front. It has anv advantage overv other kinds, not only iny appearance, but by preservimgl the connected jointsgof the harness and allowing both straps to be shortened or lengthened at the same time.
