SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 578,787, dated March 16, 1897. Application filed April 15, 1896. Serial No. 587,621. (No model.)

Beit known that I, STEPHEN B. TILY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper-Files, which improvement is fully set forth in the following speciication and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a tile for papers, bills, orders, &c., which is constructed of a pin and a carrier therefor, the latter being adapted to be removably fitted to a support,

`which is intended to remain as a fixture on bracket which is provided with ears B for attachment to a wall or other place of service, the openingC in said bracket being dovetailed in both vertical and horizontal directions and adapted to receive the block D, whose sides are inclined, so as to accord with the dovetailed shape of the opening C of the bracket. Projecting forwardly from said block is the impaling-pin E, consisting of a rod or tube on which the papers to be Iiled are impaled. In order to permit the block D to be properly seated in the opening C, there is formed in the front wall of the latter the vertical slot F, which receives the adjacent portion ,of the pin E, the said slot being of less width than said block D.

It will be seen that when the papers that have been iled are to be removed the block D is raised, whereby the papers remain on the pin until they are withdrawn from the pin E, as in other files, it being noticed that the bracket A remains in position on the wall or other place of application.

The block D may be replaced, when the pin may again receive papers to be led, as hereinbefore stated.

As the block D and opening of the bracket are of dovetailed form in horizontal direction, said block is prevented from lateral displacement, and as said parts are dovetailed in ver-l tical direction the lowering of the block is limited, so that the portion of the pin E within the slot F may rest on the base of the latter without imparting strain to said pin, which would be the case should said pin act as a stop to prevent the descent of the block.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A paper-file, consisting of a bracket having an opening therein, and a Vertical slot in its front wall, a block of dovetailshape both in vertical and horizontal cross-section adapted to be seated in said opening, and an impaling-pin projecting from said block,through said slot, said slot being of less width than said block, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A paper-file consisting of abracket having a recess C therein and a slot F in its front wall communicating with said recess of less width than the same, the block D dovetailed in both vertical and horizontal cross-section tapering from top to bottom and from front to rear, and occupying said recess, and the im palin g-pin E secured to said block and projecting through said slot, said parts being combined, substantially as described.
