Description

(No Model.)
s. 0. GLAGETT. BICYCLE SKIRT FASTENER.
N0. 578; 144. Patented Mar. 9, 1897.
252665 A: V Inventor. m e Jarafi C Claydi.
1y @fi/JM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SARAH O. CLAGETT, OF PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, MARYLAND.
BICYCLE-SKIRT FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 578,444, dated March 9, 1897.
Application filed March 31, 1896.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that .I, SARAH C. OLAGETT, a citizenof the United States, and a resident of Prince George county, Maryland, now temporarily residing in New York city, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle-Skirt Fasteners, designed to fasten the bottom of the skirt of the dress of a lady riding abicycle to her shoe or to her leggings, of which improvements the following is a specification sufficiently clear to enable others skilled in the art to which they appertain to make and use the same.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved device. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspectives of the holder. Fig. 4isasection of the holder.
The object of my invention is to afford a cheap, simple, and effective means for holding down the skirt of a ladys dress while riding the bicycle. This I accomplish by attaching to the skirt about one foot each side from the front and within an inch or two from the bottom and parallel therewith a cable or cord, preferably elastic, on which is a clasp free to slide from end to end of said cable or cord and adapted to clasp a button, hook, or other equivalent on the ladys shoe or legging.
In the drawings, A represents a piece of cord, preferably elastic, to each end of which is attached a fastener, consisting of a toiletpin B, with which to fasten the cord to the skirt, but I do not limit myself to toilet-pins,
but use any suitable known fasteners to fasten the ends of the cord to the skirt of the dress.
On the cord or cable A is placed a holder or clasp 0, free to slide from end to end of the cord A, said cord passing through a loop-ring d of the clasp or holder. Below the ring d the clasp or holder has an opening 6, sufficiently large to slip over a button or hook on the shoe or legging, at the bottom of which opening and connected with it is a small loop f, designed to clasp the shank of the button of the shoe or legging. The plane of that part of the clasp 0 containing the opening e and the loop f is at right angles to the ring (1.
The clasp or holder 0 is made of wire of suit- Serial N0. 585,545. (No model.)
able length, near one end of which is formed the ring 01 and near the other end is formed the opening e, with its loop f, and the two ends of the wire are brought together between the ring dand the opening 6, and there a metal strip h clasps them and the wire together, as shown in the drawings.
Each end-of the cord A is attached to a toiletpin B bya metal clamp is, formed from a small sheet of metal, one end of which is clamped to the cord and the other to the wire of the toilet-pin, as shown in the drawings.
Having described the objects and advantages of my device, what I Wish to secure by Letters Patent, and therefore claim, is
1. In a bicycle-skirt holder, a cable having an independent and complete fastener at each end; in combination with a holder sliding on the cable, substantially as described.
2. In a bicycle-skirt holder, an elastic cable having a fastener at each end; in combination with a holder sliding on the cable, substantially as described.
3. In a bicycle-skirt holder, a cable having an independent and complete fastener at each end; in combination with a holder consisting of a loop surrounding the cable and a second loop at an angle to the first loop, said second loop having an open ring adapted to engage a button, said holder sliding on the cable, substantially as described.
4. In a bicycle-skirt holder, a cable having an independent and complete fastener at each end each fastener adapted to be secured to a fabric; in combination with a holder consisting of a loop surrounding the cable and a second loop adapted to engage a button, said holder sliding on the cable, substantially as described.
5. In a skirt-holder, the combination of a strip of material, clasps at opposite ends thereof, and a clamp intermediate said ends.
In testimony whereof I afliX mysignature in the presence of two witnesses.
I SARAH O. OLAGETT.
