Be it known that I, HENRY F. COOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sag Harbor, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVatch-Bow Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

It is demanded at the present day that a watch-bow shall be fastened to the pendant with sufficient firmness to prevent its detachment or even to prevent it from being readily separated from the pendant by the slight twisting action employed by the pickpocket when removing the watch from his victims pocket. Various devices have been suggested for fastening the bow, some employing separate keys or clamps engaging the ends of the bow which enter the pendant, and others relying upon so fashioning or upsetting the ends of the pendant as to accomplish the desired result. It is to the latter class that my present invention relates, and its purpose is to simplify and at the same time improve in efficiency upon previous devices.

I will first fully describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings and then point out in the claim the novel features.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of awatch-bow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an axial sectional View of the pendant, showing in side elevation the bow applied thereto. Figs. 3 and 4 are views, respectively similar to Figs. 1 and 2, illustrating a modified form of the invention; and Figs. 5 and 6 are similar views indicating another modification. Fig. 7 is an elevation of one end of a watch-bow, illustrating another modification. are to an enlarged scale.

Customarily the bow 1 is made in the shape shown inFig. l, the ends having the full cylindrical shape shown by the dotted lines. I cut away the part shown by dotted lines, leaving All the views the projecting tongue 2, which may be on the outer periphery of the bow, as shown in Fig. 1, or on the inner periphery thereof, as shown in Fig. 3, and may be out on a bevel to make a sharpened end, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and be cut square to make the blunt end of the tongue, as shown in Fig. 5, or it may be produced by a rounded or concave out, as shown in Fig. 7. The two sides of Fig. 5 show the blunt-ended tongue respectively on the outer and the inner peripheries of the bow. The part cut away is of course preserved, and thus a considerable saving of precious metal is effected. The pendant 3 has apertures 4. diametrically opposite and of such size as to permit the entry of a full diameter of the bow.- The bow is seated in these apertures in the manner shown in Figs. 2, 4L, and 6, and its diameter not being reduced at the point of seating its bearing is strong and durable. When the bow is sprung into place, as shown in Figs. 2, 4:, and 6, the tongues 2 are turned down or up, as the case may be, to engage the inner surface of the pendant and thus securely hold the bow to the pendant.

My improvement thus involves a saving of precious metal, a strong and firm bearing in the pendant, and a secure attachment to the pendant, with great ease of application.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

The combination with a pendant 3, having diametrically opposite apertures; of the bow 1, each end of which is formed with a single cut-away portion at. one side only, providing a single locking-tongue at the other side of the .end; substantially as described.
