To all whom, it may concern.'

Beit known that I, ALoIs SOHRAMEK, of New York, in the county of New York and State of N ew York,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Trousers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to trousers guards or fasteners, and is designed particularly for use by bicyclists and horseback-riders, being adapted to confine trousers-bottoms closely to the ankles and prevent theflapping of the same and their catching between the sprocket and driving-chain of the bicycles and becoming injured.

With this general object in view the invention consists in an improved trousers-guard embodying certain novel features and details of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter particularly described ,illust rated in the drawings, and incorporated in the claims.

Fig. 2 illustrates in side elevation the manner of applying the improved device to a trousers-bottom. The improved guard or fastener contemspring l, preferably of sheet-steel, to one end 2 of which is rigidly secured an upright orupwardly-eXtending arm or finger 3, the purpose of which is to form a bend in the trousersbottom when the device is manipulated, as hereinafter described. Secured to the opposite end of the spring 1 is another upright or upwardly-extending arm or finger 4, which is preferably set obliquely, so that it inclines inwardly toward its upper end or converges toward the upright 3 above described. The upright 4 is extended below the spring 1 and horizontally, as indicated at 5, and to the extremity of this extension is attached a springclasp 6 of any usual or preferred construction, embodying opposing springactuated jaws which are adapted to be engaged with the bottom edge of t-he trousers.

In applying my device to a trousers-bottom the upright 4 is placed within the trousers at the front, and the remaining upright 3 is placed either upon the inside or outside of the leg, being brought to bear against the outer surface of the trousers, as shown in Fig. 2. By grasping the extension 5 and its spring-clasp 6 these parts are now carried around the upright 3 as a center, and after the front portion of the trousers-bottom has been folded back from one side of the leg, as shown in Fig. 3, the jaws of the clasp 6 are engaged with the bottom edge of the trousers, as shown in said figure, thus holding the folded portion of the trousers-bottom tightly and sn ugly against the side ofthe leg or ankle.

It will be apparent that the device hereinbefore described is susceptible of various changesV in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction, which may accordingly be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A trousers guard or fastener, comprising spaced connected uprights or fingers, one of which is adapted to lie within the trousers-bottom and the other upon the outside thereof and to form a fulcrum upon which the device is turned, and a spring-clasp connected to said device and vadapted to engage the trousers-bottom, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.

2. A trousers guard or fastener, comprising connected and upwardly-converging fingers or arms, and a spring-clasp connected to said device adjacent to the lower end of said arms, substantially as described. Y

3. A trousers guard or fastener consisting of a spring provided at each end with an upright, and a spring-clasp arranged at or near one end of said spring and adapted to engage with the trousers-bottom,substantially as and for the purpose described.
