Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. CORNELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookings, in the county of Brookings and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose and Garment Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in theart to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in clasps for hose and garment supporters, the object of the same being to provide a simple and cheap device for attaching the end of suspenders to drawers or the ends of garters to the stocking, the same being adapted to be used however, upon the end of any garmentsupporter for securing the garment thereto.

The invention consists of a clasp made in two pieces constructed of wire or sheet metal, the base-piece being formed in a loop with a contracted rear end and with a shank having a yoke or loop thereon, through which the band or elastic strap forming part of the supporter passes, and the other piece or tongue made in the form of a loop narrower and longer or wider and shorter than theloop in the base-piece and having a shank which is bent at substantially right angles to the loop portion of the tongue, is adapted to fit, when in adjusted position, the contracted portion of the base-piece, and is formed with a ring or yoke to which one end of the strap or elastic band forming a part of the garment-supporter is attached.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the supporter, shown applied to a garment. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same, showing the parts detached from the garment. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the base-piece. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the tongue. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing a modified form.

My improved clasp is made up of a basepiece 1 and a tongue 2. The base-piece is formed with a loop 3 in its outer end having a contracted portion 4 and a shank 5, with a loop or yoke 6 in its rear end through which passes the band or elastic strap 7, forming part of the garmeut-supporter. The tongue 2 is formed with a loop 8 at its forward end, which is slightly narrower and longer or. Wider and shorter than the loop 3 of the base-piece 1, and has a shank 9, which is bent at substantially right angles to the loop 8 and is adapted to fit within the contracted portion 4 of the loop 3 when the parts are in their clamped position. The shank 9 has extending rearwardly therefrom a ring or yoke 10, to which the end of the band 7 is secured.

In using my improved clasp a fold of the material of which the garment is made is forced through the loop 3 of the base-piece 1, and the loop-8 of the tongue 2 is then inserted through the loop 3, the shank 9 fitting the contracted portion 4, and the forward end of the loop 8 bearing against the forward end of the loop 3. The band 7 is then drawn tightly, and the end of the garment is securely held by the clasp and cannot be removed accidentally. The parts of the clasp may be made of wire bent in the form described or of sheet metal stamped outin similar form. All the edges are rounded, and the tearing or cutting of the garment or scratching of the flesh is prevented.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The herein-described clasp for hose or garment supporters, made up of a base-piece having a loop at the forward end and a guide for the supporting-strap at the rear end and a tongue to which one end of the supportingstraps is attached, having a loop with a shank at substantially right angles thereto, the said loop being slightly narrower and longer than the loop in said base-piece, substantially as and for the purpose described.
