DISPLAY-STAND.

Beit known that I, DANIEL HENDERSON, of Kingsley, in the county of Plymouth and State of Iowa, have invented anew and Improved Display-Stand, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable, and economic device by means of which sickle-sections, ledger-plates, and similar wares usually kept in hardwarestores and implement-houses may be stored and kept in perfect shape, the arrangement of the plates or wares on the device being such as to enable a salesman to immediately pick out a sickle or ledger-plate, for example, for any form ot' harvester in an expeditious and convenient manner and learn at the same time the size of the different articles on the le, the year or years in which the machines were made to which the particular plates are adapted, the size of the rivet or rivets necessary, and the cost and the sale price of the wares.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set `forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of the device, illustrating the sickle-sections and ledgerplates as iiled thereon; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken through the device practically on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

In carrying out the invention a support A is employed, which is usually raised by a marginal flange or its equivalent. In the said support one or more openings 10 are made, and each opening 10 is provided with a horizontal flange at one side extending in direction of the opposite side of the opening, the flange being a predetermined distance below the upper level of the base, and at a right angle to each slot or opening 10 a second and preferably a wider and shorter opening 12 is made in the support, and a horizontal or upwardly-inclined flange 13 is formed at each side of the latter openings 12, the flanges 13 being also below the plane of the upper surface of the support, as shown inboth Figs. 1 and 2.

The holder B, particularly adapted for sickle-sections C, is preferably made from one piece of spring-wire of suitable diameter, and the said holder comprises two parallel upright sections or posts 14, ahorizontal base-arm 15, extending from the bottom of each upright post 14, and between the base-arms the wire is bent inwardly in direction of the space between the posts in a manner to form a horizontal arch 1G.

In placing the holder B in the support the posts are passed upward through the exposed portion of a slot l0 in the base until that portion of the support-arms connecting with the posts rests practically on the flange 11, pro- .vided for the said opening. The remaining portions of the base-ar1ns will then extend horizontallybeneath the base, and by manipulating the flanges 13 at the opening l2 in a manner to carry the said flanges upward `around the members of the central arch 10 fthe holder will be held rigidly in engagement with the under face of the base, leaving the Y posts 14 perfectly free to be sprung in direction of or away from each other as far as the length of the slot 10 will admit. The upper ends of the posts 14 are preferably pointed.

The posts 14 of the holder are made to pass through the rivet-holes in the sickle-sections C to be led upon that particular holder, and one style of sickle-section only for a particular harvester or of a particular size is contained upon a holder, so that when a number of these holders B are employed there will be filed upon each one a number of sickle-sections of the same make.

In order that a salesman or other person requiring information may tell at a glance just what style of sickle-section is contained on a holder, each holder is provided with a listin g-blank C,having a corresponding shape to the sicklesection and having openings corresponding to the rivet-openings in said sections. A listing-blank will always cover the uppermost sickle-section and will contain, preferably, the following information: the name of the machine for which the sicklesection is designed, the size of the sickle-sed tion, the year or years in which the machine was manufactured to which this particular section is to be applied, the size and number of the rivet that is to accompany the section, and the cost and the selling price.

In order to adapt the device for the iiling of ledger-plates, a holder D is employed, which may be used in connection with any of the posts 14, or in connection with a single adjustable or fixed post. The led ger-plate holder D consists of two upright parallel standards 17, and from the bottom of each standard a horizontal base-arm 18 is projected, the arms being usually carried from the standards outn wardly in opposite directions, and they are connected at their diverging ends and have an eye 19 formed in such connection. The holder D is usually made from spring-wire, and the eye 1f) will receive the post to which the holder is to be applied. The uprights or standards 17 are quite close together, and while parallel for the greater portion of their length are made to diverge at the top.

The ledger-plates E are applied by causing the post to which the holder D is attached to be passed through the rivet-openings in the plates, the plates resting one on the other, and their contracted ends will neatly fit in the space between the uprights or standards 17 of the holder D, and a listing-blank E is placed upon the uppermost ledgenplate of each file of the same, bearing the information which has been described with reference to the listing-blanks for the sickle-sections.

As heretofore stated, instead of the posts of a holder being spring-controlled the adj ustm ent of a single or of two opposing posts may be accomplished by forming openings 2O in the support, having a sunken iiange 2l at each side, providing a post 22 with a collar 23, the collar being made to end in the slot 21 in such manner that it will be prevented from turning, and the collar rests upon the sunken flanges 21. rlhe lower end of the post, which is carried through and beyond the bottom portion of the support of the device, is provided with a lock-nut 24E, whereby two posts may be shifted toward or away from one another to receive a iile of sickle-sections, or any particular post may be independently adjusted.

It will be furthermore understood that the holder D may be used in connection with a lixed post as well as with an adjustable one.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a display-stand, a holder comprising posts, horizontal spring-arms connecting the posts, and a support to which the arms are attached and on which the posts have movement to and from each other, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a display-stand, the combination, with a support having openings therein at angles to one another, and flanges formed at the sides of the openings below the plane of the upper surface of the support, of aholder constructed of spring material and comprising parallel posts extending out through one of the openings in the said support, engaging with the flange of the same, horizontal base-arms extended from the base beneath the support, and an arched connection between the said arms, the members of the connecting-arch being supported by the iianges formed at the second openings in the support, as and for the purpose specified.

3. In a display-stand,the combination, with. a standard, of a holder connected therewith, comprising a base-section and standards projected upward in parallel lines from one end of the base-section in front of the said standard, the holder being constructed of a spring material, and capable with the posts of holding ledger-plates, substantially as described.

4. A display-stand having a support a post carried by the support, and a holder having two upright rods and a triangular bottom portion, the bottom portion having `an eye at the point opposite the rods and the eye receivin g the post, substantially as described.

5. A dis play-stand having a support formed with two slots extending angularly to each other, one slot being adjacent to two flanges on the support, the iianges being extended below the support, and a holder having two posts and also having a base provided with two side portions to which the posts are respectively connected, the side portions of the base being joined by a curved or arched portion held by the iian ges, substantially as described.

6. A display-stand having a supporting-post rising from the support and a holder having a base pivotally connected to the post, the holder also having two posts rising from the base, substantially as described.

7. A display-stand having a support, a post adjustable horizontally on the support, and a holder havin g a base pivotally connected with the post and having two posts rising therefrom, substantially as described.

8. A display-stand having a support, a post rising from the support, and aholder having a base provided with an eye loosely receiving the post, and two posts rising from the base, substantially as described.

9. A display-stand having a support formed with a slot, the edges of which are bent to form two Iianges extending out from the support, and a holder having a post land also having a base, the base having two connected side portions and the side portions being respectively embraced and held by the flanges, substantially as described.
