Be it known that I, FRANK A. J ABERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Philadelphia, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Placket-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to placket-fasteners; and the object in view is to provide a simple, cheap, and eicient device of this character which` will not only keep the placket of a ladys skirt closed, but which will also serve to keep the band of the waist down over the band of the skirt and prevent said bands from separating. To this end the invention consists in an improved device for the purpose stated embodying certain novel features and details of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and incorporated in the claim hereto appended.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the placket-fastener, showing also the plate for securing the waistband detached. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the placket-fastener, looking from the opposite side. Fig. 3 shows portions of the skirt and waist with the improved fasteners applied thereto. Fig. et is an enlarged detail section showing the manner in'which the end plates of the stays interlock.

The placket-fastener contemplated in this vinvention comprises, essentially, a pair of stays l of suitable length and pivotally connected together at one end, the same being the lower end when the device is applied to a skirt. These stays may be formed from inet-al, hard rubber, whalebon e, or any other suitable material, they being preferably elastic or flexible, so as to conformthemselves to These stays are inclosed in hems in the skirt at the edges thereof contiguous to the placket and are preferably secured by stitching. while the other plate 5 is provided at its vinner end, or that end which is secured to the stay, with an integrally-formed hook 6, pro-A jecting forwardly from its front face, which when the plates are brought together is adapted to enter the opening 4 and interlock in the manner shown in Fig. 4,`in which position the stays yl act to hold the placket closed. Projecting rearwardly from the plate 5is a headed stud 7, the shank of which passes through the upper end of the stay to which said plate is attached and also through said plate 5, to which it is rigidly secured.

This plate is provided about centrally with a keyhole-slot 9, the upper end of which is sufficiently large to pass over the head of the stud 7, the lower portion of the slot being of sufficient width only to embrace the shank of the stud, so that when the stud is inthe narrow portion of the slot the plate 8 cannot become disengaged therefrom. By gras ping the waistband and pulling the same downward the plate 8 may, however, be disengaged from the stud, thus releasing the waistband from the skirtband, after which the interlocking plates 3 and 5 may be unhooked for permitting the placket to be opened.

The device above described is very simple in construction, cheap in manufacture, and will be found reliable and convenient in operation.

It will be understood that the several parts of the device are susceptible of changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction, which may accordingly be re- IOO therewith, a stud projecting from the face of one of thestieners, and-a slotted plate adapt ed to be attached to the Waist for engagement with said stud, substantially as described.
