Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-Y OKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,413, dated August 21, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, N. H. VOSBURGH, of Ooxsackie, in the county of Greene and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a front View of my invention; Fig. 2, a transverse section of my invention, taken in the line no 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in the leather eyes or loops for fitting the neckyoke on the draft-pole. These leather loops, after being used a short time, become creased and bent and soon crack and break under the working or movement of the neck-yoke on the draft-pole.
The invention consists in applying or securin g a metal strap and ring to one side of the leather loop, whereby the same is rendered far more durable than hitherto.
A represents a neck-yoke, and B a leather eye or loop secured to the center of the same, and made in the usual manner, to Wit, of several thicknesses of leather placed side by side, or in contact with the neck'yoke, passing between them and the pendentparts, firml ysewed or stitched together. The lower pendent part, a, of this loop is cut of circular form, and has a hole, I), made concentrically through it for the draft-pole to pass througlnas shown in Fig. 1.
0 represents a metal bar or strap of flat form, which is secured by screws or rivets to the portions 0 of the 'loop which extend around the neck-yoke; and D isa ring, which is secured by screws or rivets to the pendent part a of the loop, and is connected by ajoint or hinge, (l, to the bar or strap 0.
This metal ring and strap greatly strengthens the leather loop, preventing it from creasing, cracking, and breaking, which is very liable after a short use to occur at the part indicated by the red line.
This metal strap and ring maybe applied ata very small cost, and will cause the leather loop to last indefinitely.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The metal bar or strap and eye, connected by a joint or hinge and applied or secured to the leather loop of a neck-yoke, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 11th day of April, 1866.
N. H. VOSBURGH.
