IMPROVED BRooM AND BRUSH HEAD.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,378, dated August 2l, i866.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it knownY that I, GEORGE T. REED, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Broom and Brushv Head, for the purpose of holdin g broom-corn, bristles, or other materials that may be used for sweeping, dusting, painting, Sto.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, letter A is an outside view of the end metallic dovetail slides. Letter B is a hole for a screw to fasten to head-block.
Fig. 2 is an inside View of Fig. l. Letters C C are the dovetail creases or slide.
Fig. 3 is an inside view of one side of the metallic clamp or binder, of which there are two (2) pieces, facsimiles. Letters C C arc the edges for the slides to bind on, commencing at the bottom and sliding upward. Letter Dis a rib or ridge, of which there is to be one (l) or more, that presses upon the broom-corn, bristles, or other material, and holds it permanent from slipping.

Fig. 5 is a longitudinal top View of the two (2) side pieces, firmly bound together at the ends by the above-described dovetail slides, Figs. l and 2, forming a powerful clam p and a permanent fastening for holding broom-corn or other material to be used for brooms, brushes, &c.
Fig. 6 is a wooden head -block, that is placed on the top of Fig. 5, and fastened by two (2) screws at letters B B. Letter E is a plain hole for the handle.
