JOHN A. ROUTZONG AND JOSEPH C. ROUTZONG, OF XENIA, OHIO.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,831, dated December 8, 1896. Application filed January 8, 1896. $erial No. 574,745 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN A. ROUTZONG and JOSEPH O. ROUTZONG, of Xenia, Greene county, Ohio, have made a new and useful Improvement in Fence-Posts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the. drawings making a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to a combined metallic and wooden fence-post, and its object is to provide an improved construction of the same which shall possess superior advantages with respect to efficiency in use.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a combined metallic and wooden fence-post constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the metallic casing, the wooden post being removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the wooden post, detached.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates a rectangular metallic casing provided at its lower end with feet 2, formed integral therewith and extending outwardly at right angles therefrom. From the point 3 (see Figs. 1 and 2) said casing is cut away at one side to the top, thereof. The numeral 4 designates a wooden post fitting in the said casing, one side being exposed at the cutaway portion of the casing, so that staples, nails, or other devices may be driven into the post for securing fence wires or rails in place.
The numeral 5 designates screws which pass through holes in the sides of the metallic post and engage with the wooden post to hold it in place.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim is- 1. As an improved article, a metallic fencepost comprising the rectangular hollow lower portion, having the lower ends turned outwardly at right angles forming feet, and the upper portion cut away on one side from the upper end to a point at or near the center, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a metallic fencepost comprising the rectangular hollow lower portion, having the lower ends turned outwardly at right angles forming feet, and the upper portion cut away on one side from the upper end to a point near the center, of the rectangular wooden post, inserted in said metallic post and secured thereto by means of screws, substantially as described.
