Description

(No'Model.)
, T. L`..DILLON.
GABLB ORNAMENT.
No. 559,550.r Patented ont, 13, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
THOMAS LEE DILLON, OF NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
GABLE ORNAMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,550, dated October 13, 1896.
Serial No, 596,896. (No model.)
To all whom, it' may concern;
Be it known that I THOMAS LEE D1LLoN,a citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at Nashville, in the county ot" Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Gable Ornament, of which the following is a specification.
Illy invention relates to building, and particularly to gable ornaments; and the object in view is to provide an adjustable gable ornament adapted to be arranged to suit the pitch of the gable in connection with which it is to be used.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description,an d the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective of the same.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings. j
l designates a base-bar or transverse timber, upon the extremities of which and iiush with the front surface thereof are mounted circular or disk-shaped corner ornaments 2, mounted upon pivot-screws 3. In the construction illustrated cleats 4 are secured to the rear side of the transverse bar and are extended. beyond the extremities thereof for engagement by the rear ends ot' the pivotscrews.
Rising from the center of the transverse bar is an upright 5, upon which is mounted a vertically-adjustable center block or ornament G, and pivotally connected at their upper extremities to this center block or ornament are the side bars 7, which are pivotally connected near their lower ends to the rotary disks or cornerornaments 2 by means of pivot-screws S. A rear plate f) is secured to the center block or ornament (3 by means of screws l0, which form the pivots of the upper ends of the side bars 7, and said rear plate carries a slide 1l, which operates in a groove or channel l2 in thc rear side of the upright 5.
This being' the construction of the ornament embodying my invention, it will be understood that the inclination of the side bars l maybe changed to suitthe pitch of the gable i in which the device is to be arranged by sliding the center ornament vertically upon the upright 5, the adjustability of the corner ornaments 2 providing for the lateral contraction or expansion of' the ornament to agree with the adjustment of its altitude.
It will be understood that the corner blocks or disks 2 form an adjustable connection between the sides and the base-bar of the ornament to allow free vertical movement of the center block or ornament, and after the desired adjustment has been attained the parts may be locked by tightening the screws or bolts by which they are pivotally connected.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim isl. An adjustable gable ornament having a base-bar, a central upright, a center block or ornament mounted to slide upon the upright, and side bars pivotally connected to said center block or ornament and loosely connected ities, substantially as specified.
2. An adjustable gable ornament having a base-bar, a central upright, a center block or ornament mounted to slide upon the upright, side bars pivotally connected to the center block or ornament, and adjustable corner blocks mounted upon the base-bar and pivotally connected with the lower extremities of the side bars to provide for the lateral expansion and contraction of the ornament, substantially as specified.
An adjustable gable ornament having a base-bar, rotary corner blocks or disks mounted upon the base-bar, a central upright, a center block or ornament mounted t0 slide upon the upright, and side bars pivotally connected at their upper extremities to the center block or ornament and at their lower extremities to the corner blocks or disks, substantially as specified.
l. An adjustable gable ornament having a base-bar carrying terminal rotary corner blocks or disks, a central upright provided in its rear side with a channel or groove, a cenwith the base-bar contiguous to its extrem- IOC tor block or ornament havinga rear platev In testimony that I Claim the foregoing as Carrying a slide to operate in said channel o1` my own I have hereto affixed my signature in groove, and side bars pivotally connected at the presence of two Witnesses.
their upper and lower extremities, respec- THOMAS LEE DILLON. tively, to the center block or ornament and YVtnesses:
the corner blocks 01 disks, substantially as J. B. ARMSTRONG,
specified. O. L. VARD.
